Matsumoto plays a half-Filipino whose father has died and mother has disappeared. Despite his misfortune and the issues he deals with, such as race, he lives his life positively with a constant smile.
Similarly, Aragaki plays a young woman living cheerfully despite losing her ability to speak due to an accident. Her character is said to be modeled after a real actress in the theatrical troupe that Takuma runs.
The supporting cast includes Kiichi Nakai as a lawyer who watches over Matsumoto and Aragaki.
"Smile" will air on Friday nights at 10:00pm, starting in April.

I was actually impressed with the screenwriting in HYD2. HYD made it a challenge to write the second season. Still, Takuma retained the essence of the manga while bringing something fresh to the adaptation. I can't wait to see how he'll write this story. The synopsis sounds interesting already.

Way to go, Jun! I'm so proud of him.
I think it is an interesting topic as some half-filipinos or other "halfs" get discriminated a lot. There were even talks one time among parents to set up schools just for those kids because some half-filipino kids get bullied. I think it is really astonishing. Haven't been around Japan lately so I don't know about the status-- maybe the situation has improved
My ex co-worker, who was a Filipino, was able to talk to Arashi before. That's because the manager (or the stylist? I forgot exactly) of the boy band happens to be a Filipino and a close friend of hers.
I will ask her to get some ideas about the new project.

The storyline doesnt really appeal to me but since it's Takayuki Takuma/Mikio Satake and Matsujun.. I will give this a try when it comes out.
