QUOTE (*toofast!tolive. @ Feb 14 2009, 11:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So I was on my bed, eating KFC....

I could take a wild guess why you're having trouble breathing...
"But when it ends and while it ends, something comes, after so much rage, persistence, obstinacy, extravagance; something entirely unexpected and touching in its mildness and goodness. With the motif passed through many vicissitudes, which takes leave and so doing becomes itself entirely leave-taking, a parting wave and call, with this D G G occurs a slight change, it experiences a small melodic expansion. After an introductory C, it puts a C sharp before the D. . .and this added C Sharp is the most moving, consolatory, pathetically reconciling thing in the world. It is like having one's hair or cheek stroked, lovingly, understandingly, like a deep and silent farewell look. . . . " (Mann: 55).

Were you laying down on your bed? Don't rest on your stomach while eating.

Hmm, do you feel like there is just liquid going down the wrong tube or that feeling that something is in your throat? Is it difficult to breathe when you exhale (dyspnea on exhalation) or when you inhale or both?

maybe you were choked by the cooking oil that they used to cook their chickens

that's why you should have been eating properly, eat at a table & sit on a chair.

eating in bed, so disgusting.

Also remember this, your esophagus and your trachea split in your neck area (near the adam's apple), but both tubes run along each other until about the level of the heart. What could be happening is that when you eat something on your bed is that there is no gravity to assist the food down. So what the esophagus does it has to use what we call parastaltic action (more of it) to pull the food down.

But since they do run along each other, its possible you took a large bite that caused the esophagus to expand, pushing on the trachea, making it hard to breathe. Its also possible that because of the grease of your KFC can be causing the parastaltic action to be less effective, by causing it to slip when it tries to pull down the food. It could've also caused a spasm of the esophagus muscles as well.

I'm just speculating here with what I know about anatomy and physiology (looking at dead cadavers in sectional anatomy really teaches you something)...

^ The pieces of chicken are pretty small.

Mwahaha. I know. But I want to know how it happened.

Yes, because I'm a pig and my bed is comfy. But how could the oil choke me? Plus, I wasn't choking. It was just hard to breathe.

I was half-lying down, half-sitting up. On my back. But I don't think my position had anything to do with it. It's happened to me while I was sitting up properly as well.

Nope, not the wrong tube. Just that when I breathe, it really hurts and feels like something is suffocating me.

To be honest I don't think this is anything you have to be concerned about... if you really want you can ask your doctor next time you see him/her.

Random body quirks are actually normal... provided they don't occur consistantly or too frequently.

you might want to stop eating any food whilst on the bed.
prime conditions for a choking emergency.
and it would be very embarrassing to have a paramedic take a piece of KFC out of your airway.

You're consuming your food way too fast mellow.gif

Take smaller, lesser food each time and chew on it for like 10 times before swallowing.
