im really curious, when you have braces, do they make you have elastics?
because i have braces and all of a sudden i got an overbite.

its not hugee and all but my friend said they give you these elastics
that take away your overbite and lines up your jaw
i mean if they line up my jaw its fine but to make my teeth like lined up
eh i dont know how to explain like if my overbite is gone
i look retarted if my teeth touch together i look constipated and then look
like i have an underbite

anyways i like my overbite its not HUGE but removing will look bad
since you cant move your top jaw and moving my bottom forward would look weird.

so do you have to have these elastics? do/did you have the same problem?

Your overbite does go away fully, like it doesnt literatly align the bottom and top teeth together. the top teeth will be out a little bit.

don`t worry, i thought i would look weird if they took out my overbite, but i look just the same!

The reason you look weird when your teeth is aligned is because at the moment you have an overbite and you try to align your own teeth by shifting your jaw, you really have to try braces before you can say you look weird or not afterward.
Plus, as everyone said, not EVERYONE gets elastics, I didn't... my sister did for 4 months because they said her growth spurt caused an underbite.
I already got my braces off and I seriously feel like I still have an overbite, because my teeth aren't aligned, but everyone who's gotten their's off have told me that they also have that feeling, so don't worry.

I have elastics...my ortho told me that even tho my teeth are straight they have to align my bite so that i won't have any joint problems later on. if i do, i'd have to get braces again or something :3

yea, you will get the elastics eventually. when I had braces i just wore the elastics at night, but I trippled the rubberbands so it would be faster, this would impress my dentist every appointment =]

you mean rubber bands? because i associate elastics with the things that are actually on the braces. a normal perfect jaw alignment has a slight overbite. unless you have an extreme overbite then you might not even need it. you should ask ortho

my teeth were lined up and they said that there's suppose to be an overbite.
they gave me the tiniest elastics they had and i never put them on until i finally got tired of always going there and having them say "put on your rubber bands" -.-;;..
so yeah...now i have my braces and rubber bands DONE WITH! biggrin.gif on saturday to be exact tongue.gif

I use elastics to fix my overbite. Like what everyone said, not all people who wear braces have to wear elastics.

I have elastics at the moment, and yeah it's meant to pull forward the bottom teeth so the overbite isn't so.. 'over' lol
I was told it'd prevent further problems in the future, so it's probably worth it or I'd be stuck with braces again in like twenty years time =.=

I had to wear elastics for about 9 months all day except during meals.
If your othodontist says you have to wear them, then wear them.
I've known many friends who didn't listen to their orthodontists and their treatment was prolonged a good six months.

I have the same problem as you. I've been wearing rubber bands for a few months now.
I wear 1 on each side. There's a really big difference now. No more overbite, my teeth are just lined up correctly smile.gif

I've just gotten elastics for my braces in mid-January. I haven't been wearing them, but when I do, i wear at least 2 or 3 on my right side only. i haven't gotten permission to wear both sides yet. and they do work *thumbs up*

my mom always told me, braces = nice teeth, nice teeth = nice smile, nice smile = attraction, attraction = self confidence, and self confidence gives great life!
^^ not sure if I've said that right.

haha, when i had braces i hate to use elastics.
I HATE THOSE THINGS! LOL.
i never wore them to school, only at night.
but they help to get rid of the overbite..
so, unless you wanna keep your overbite, wear them.

Boo, my braces didn't make my teeth look much better, haha. They're straight, but they don't help chipping.

D*NNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG, didn't that hurt?

okokok, i had a really bad over bite ( i would say i did)
i didn't start wearing elastics untill like 2 years into it ( i had them for like 3.5 - 4 years)
to pull my top teeth back. ( as in bothersome or a burden)
they weren't that much of a pain. I don't remember if you had to take them out when eating :S. It hurts yes, But it's worth it. BRACES ARE ALWAYS WORTH IT!
oh, and that cool little hookie thing they give you to put them on your brackets. i think mine glowed in the dark. HAHAHA

Let the beat rock.

i hated having to wear elastics, they were so gross. and it was bad because my orthodontist made the hooks dig into my gums - so it hurt like a pinkberry when i put the elastics on
but yeah, at least they did their job. i used to have a horrible overbite
