hii, so right now, i'm at this crappy community college because the senior year of high school, i only applied to this school and that's it.
i thought i wouldn't be able to be accepted anywhere else based on my grades (i'm a huuuuge slacker/procrastinator)
& the only good grades i had were in my senior year.

SOOO, around april and may last year, i applied to NYIT & CUNY (both schools in new york), and i got ACCEPTED TO BOTH!
but, NYIT was around $40,000 a year and i just didn't have that money, and the CUNY school i applied to didn't have any housing.
really dumb, i know, lol D;

and so i ended up at the community college a week before classes started.
at the beginning, i put up with it, but now, i'm just like 'why am i here?'
i feel like this school isn't even a college. it's like my mom has to drag me to class every single day.

i already applied to Rutgers, Seton Hall, and Ramapo.
i can cross Rutgers off my list because they sent me a letter a week or 2 ago saying they can't consider me for the Fall '09 semester because the 'space is limited' or somethinggg. ;____;

right now, i'm trying to apply to every school so there's a higher chance i'll be accepted to one of them and i can finally get out of the school i'm at now.

my question is, are there any colleges in the new york/new jersey area that are good for nursing?
it has to have:
- the nursing program (obviously haha)
- housing
- a college that'll be worth the money.
- new york/new jersey/pennsylvania/connecticut/maryland area
- lots of diversity.
- good environment/surroundings.

thanks a lot! ^^

i would say CUNY HUNTER tho there is no housing much but there is dorm for HONORS students, so it very rare for others to get but you can always try.

LIU has a nursing program, dont think have housing

SUNYs try them, all of them have housing and most of them have nursing. just gotta research.

I would suggest CUNY Hunter College because they have a good nursing program; but a lot of people apply for that major but only 100 students (I think?) gets in. It's very hard to get into that major (well thats what I heard from other students). I'm currently a freshmen there pursuing my nursing major too. tongue.gif

Tuition is very cheap comparing to your 40k per year. It's about two thousand something per semester. Nevermind, I just notice you reside in NJ so it'll probably be 4k-5k per semester? But I'm sure you'll have finacial aid to cover that up.
Location: 68th street in manhattan. 6 train.
Housing: I'm not sure about that part because I live in brooklyn; but i'm sure you can speak to them about that situation and they could arrange something?

I would say the surrounding is good. If you continue to walk near 59th street you'll hit the shopping places. (ie: banana, h&m, diesel, ..etc)

And if you decide to go there, it'll be great. lmao biggrin.gif
all smiles.

William Paterson University is also good.

its very hard to get into the nursing program and is probably a bit easier than rutgers

i dont know if its much help hahaha but i live in North Jersey and most of my friends are nursing majors ( iono maybe its a filipino thing lol ) however, most of them did the "stars" program at our community college then go to Rutgers Newark afterwards. Cant really think of a place afforable that hasnt already been mentioned only TCNJ, Stockton and Rowan ( and more cause of dorming well depending where you live and if you can commute ) I do have friends who are going to Felician College, Seton Hall, Fairleigh Dickinson, Bloomfield College and St. Peters for their nursing program but its so expensive. My sister is at her last year at felician for BSN and its 30 K a year @_@.

yeah i think it is a filipino thing LOL.
i figured out i wanted to be a nurse by myself though .. i wanted to be a graphic designer at first, but with the recession and all -____-

i should've done really well in high school so i would've been in nj stars program. but my grades sucked all except for my senior year. i'm surprised i got accepted anywhere lol.

okay, so i want to find schools farther than just new york and jersey lol.
so does anyone have suggestions for good nursing schools in the
new york/new jersey/pennsylvania/connecticut/maryland area?

thanks a lot everyone (:

You know what.. I don't even live around your area but Nursing topics interest me!

I didn't have the greatest SATs and ACTs back in high school and I really wasn't the going away to college type of girl. I went to this community college part time taking 1-2-3-4-5 classes at a time right after high school back in 2004.. not to mention while working full time. One sem I took 5 and ended up dropping 2! laugh.gif I took a semester break and took my CNA and started working as one. Now, 3 years later I'm still a CNA getting the experience and.. just last Fall I started my ADN program (Associate's Degree in Nursing) at this same community college. I still couldn't believe it that they accepted me since I wasn't the 4.0 student! They only accepted 88 people I think. I was a slacker, procrastinator, name it that was me.. but I had all the requirements and prerequisites completed. So I guess that helped me! And let me tell you, ADN and BSN programs might be different but we all graduate as RN's and take the same NCLEX boards. We are also NOT paying the 20,000-30,000 per sem or year or whatever. Seriously, my tuition last Fall was $1153 + books and this sem it's a little under a $1000. When I meet nursing students anywhere they're like, "Wow, you guys don't pay as much blah blah." Plus, isn't it smart to get your ADN first and work at a hospital that has a continuing education or bridge program or somewhere who's going to reimburse you for your BSN tuition.. that's kinda my plan. Haha! I also would want my Master's someday though.

I can say I love and hate Nursing school. I love it when I know I'm doing a good job like passing my tests and surviving clinicals just like what happened this week. laugh.gif It is VERY stressful though because you really have to keep up with all your work. But it is such a great career and go anywhere with it. biggrin.gif

Good luck to your nursing career..

P.S. I'm also a Filipina! laugh.gif
