I haven't tried any other tmobile phones yet but I really love my sidekick.
The data plan is unilimited everything.. unlimited text, emails, internet..all just for $20. If you use a lot of texts, this is great. The QWERTY keyboard will be easy to use and I love the little short cuts with like Jump + S will switch you automatically to the message screen, Jump + B will switch you automatically to the web browsing screen. This is definitely great for people who multi-task. You can stop mid-txt and switch to another screen then come back and finish it or save it as a draft.
You can also adjust your dictionary where it will autocorrect your words for you and adjust it to whatever would suit your most common typos. The web browsing is on edge network, I think you can upgrade.. I don't believe there is wifi but it's not that great for internet etc unless you're looking up quick facts on wikipedia or something.. thats cool.
Another down side is the fact that there is no alarm clock if you use your phone as one, everything is application based including ringtones you have to buy from them.. you can't make your own.
The camera has definitely improved for the newer sidekicks. But I have a sidekick 3 so I can't comment any further. The bulkiness is definitely a downside if you don't have a purse or something to carry it in.
I'm guessing you're going to have to post what you're looking for in a phone.. just texting? Do you want internet? Do you want aim on it?
I definitely eyeing the G1 for its internet capabilities and also the Samsung Behold cause it comes in pink and it's touch screen!

If I were you, I wouldn't sign any new contract.
Go with an unlocked phone and you'll be happy with it.
To be honest, I don't really see any good phones out on T-Mobile...unless you like the android based G1 which I had for a little over three months and I actually liked it. Also, the Samsung Behold seems like a good phone as well. I had a sidekick when it first came out and didn't like it at all.
But yeah, its really up to you on what you want.

I'd go with the G1.
G1 has A LOT of applications/games compared to the other phones you mentioned. G1 market has a future similar to the iPhone app store. Also, it has a good qwerty keyboard and if you do get it, condition the battery which will give you more battery power.

lol, i totally agree with you. i love my sidekick to pieces. i started with a sidekick 3 and "upgraded" to the slide. i dropped my slide when i got out of the car and it bounced under another one. it's so durable (if you drop your phone a lot). the only thing i got out of that was 2 scratches in the corner and it's barely noticeable.
the only thing i hate about the sidekick is that you can't put your own ringtone you want. you have to buy it from the tmobile catalog. but the unlimited plan is definitely worth it like misstiffany said. if you're a hardcore texter. internet isn't so bad. it's just a little slow. :] and with instant messaging (they have aim. msn and yahoo), i leave mine on 24/7. lol.
i'm planning to upgrade my phone again in june and i was thinking of the behold or the g1. but i'm leaning towards the g1. since it has the qwerty keyboard.

I would suggest AGAINST the wing and the G1 because:
The wing is not durable against falls. Like the above poster said I dropped my sk infinite amt of times on hard concrete. It is also easy to find replacement parts for. The wing is a smart phone with windows installed aimed at business professionals.
Also since you're not looking for an Internet phone with applications, the G1 is definitely not for you. It is great for Internet but if you're not going to use that then I'd avoid the G1 cause it is very bulky. Also avoid touchscreens bc they are kind of hard to type on lol.
I honestly think you'll love the sidekick or I would go for a blackberry pearl for a more slimmer handheld.
Definitely go to the tmobile store and test some things out!
