actually, not really.haha>_<
i'm currently a senior in high school& having problems.
the summer after my freshman year, i worked out like CRAZY. i ran&walked for 1.5 hours a day. around 5-6 miles a day, everyday for 3months. this made my weight from 105 to 95. i was happy with my weight&how i looked like. then beginning of my sophomore year, i moved to a new city&new school, i had a hard time adjusting& i noticed i was SLOWLY gaining back my weight. sophomore year= 5 pounds
junior year= 5 pounds
senior year=5 pounds.
now, i weight 110 pounds. it's a healthy, normal body weight for my height, 5'1 and a half.
i went from a size 0 to a size 5.
i don't really care but i've been feeling really laggy [correct word?] because i can feel the excess fat around my stomach and back and thighs that i didn't have before.
i'm going to the gym every day now. i run for 20 minutes [around a 6-8 speed] then i walk for 10 minutes at 4.0 speed with a 4-5 incline. then i do the elipticals for 30 minutes. i burn around 400-500 calories a day by working out. but i'm not losing any weight.sleep.gif;;;
i don't necessarily want to go back to 95 pounds, because it's unhealthy, but just to a point where i feel comfortable and confident.
i don't eat ANY vegetables, seafood, or dairy products [i'm lactose intolerant]
i eat a lot of unhealthy food.
can this be the only reason why i'm not losing any weight even if i work out a lot?
what changes can i make so that i can lose weight?
btw, i ONLY want to lose weight by eating right&working out so please make suggestions in that area.

thanks :]]

Is that obvious enough for you?

Well, it doesn't really matter if you eat unhealthy food as long as you compensate it through workout, so I guess you're not compensating enough to lose weight, but just enough to keep your current weight.

What changes you can make, two options (which are so obvious that you probably already know, but I'm gonna point it out anyway): Eat less unhealthy food while keeping up your workout and see if you lose weight now; or increase your workout to compensate more of that unhealthy food you eat and see if you lose weight; or a combination of both, but less of each.

HAHAHAHAHA NO.
If you are not eating the right foods, you're going to encounter problems eventually. You need to eat properly in order to stay healthy.
If you have one person consume 2000 calories in the form of veggies, fruit, meat, grains, dairy, etc. they are going to be in way better shape than someone who consumes 2000 calories of junk food even if they exercise the same amount.
It may seem to work in the short run, but in the long run, that plan is so not going to work.

Then how come I'm eating at Burger King at least every 2nd day (no other place to get food here during school) and at the same time got a BMI of 22? I'm pretty fit physically, resting pulse rate is 50.

It's not like you're eating dirt that has nothing good for your body at all, the defamation of junk food is simply overrated. After all, a burger is nothing less than "veggies, fruit, meat, grains, dairy", just all mashed up and with some added sugar, fat and other enhancers. You say it's so bad because everyone says it's so bad, but the truth is, with enough exercise you can eat anything that you want as long as you cover your daily need of vitamins, proteins, minerals etc. which you can easily cover through junk food only. The problem with junk food is that on top of that daily need you also get a lot of unneccessary sugar, fat and some other things, but those can be compensated through exercising and working out. Of course, eating junk food means more exercising neccessary, but there's no difference in health unless exercising is neglected.

because you're a man (I assumed that profile pic is you).
men lose weight easier than women.
Plus women have more body fat than men, about 10% more.

Psh, who says a burger is just "veggies, fruit, meat, grains, dairy?" Fruit wtf?? Maybe you don't get fat from eating burgers every 2nd day cause you're young, have a faster metabolism genetically. That doesn't mean it's not bad for you. Some things take years to take hold, think of all the saturated fat from the burger that could eventually clog an artery. You seem to think everything's rated in calories. Junk food has more calories so work out more, OK. To a certain extent, maybe. MAYBE. The body needs certain nutrients to grow, to function correctly. Say you don't get enough vitamin D. Then your body won't absorb calcium and your bones won't grow. The same goes for metabolism. Your body needs protein to build lean muscle, and lean muscle burns the most calories so you lose more fat. If all you eat is junk food, where you gonna get protein from to recover from your workouts??? Your body will take it from the muscles you already have, COUNTERproductive. And if you don't have enough? You'll begin feeling tired and your body will start slowing its metabolism and storing more fat from whatever you eat.

It's a cycle and it all starts with eating wholesome food. Don't be so ignorant about it.

eat a healthy, low fat diet with a reasonable calorie amount. that way you can keep the weight if you want but you won't have flab if you cut down the fat and keep exercising. smile.gif

Most weight trainers say that losing weight is 95% diet and 5% exercise. Seriously, you can't compensate it--even if it's just in terms of what kind of health you're getting in the long run. No veggies, seafood (you should be eating 2-3 seafood dishes as main courses a week), or dairy will severely impact your overall health. If you want to be a decrepit woman with weak bones and poor skin by the age of 40, then go ahead with your current diet, but there is an actual logic to nutritional building blocks--which is that certain aspects of your health depend on what you consume.

If you are truly only interested in losing weight at the expense of your nutritional health, then sure, you can eat a sirloin steak every evening and eat Cheetos with sour cream every lunch and eat banana splits every morning and work out for 3 to 5 hours everyday to lose the calories. But at the rate you're working, you're not losing anything. You'd have to consume a good part of your life with, well, consuming and exercising and if that's not unpleasant then I don't know what is!

Hummm... I'm not the one being ignorant sad.gif! What's the point of giving me a biology lecture? It's not like I don't know that the body needs nutrients... and I already said that junk food is able to cover the daily need of them.

It's not like there's only unhealthy and bad stuff in it, it's just overrated, or in this case underrated, because of all the fat, sugar and all those other extras that make it taste so yummy and are totally unneccessary for the body. But that doesn't mean that at the same time there are absolutely no vitamins or proteins in it, it's not like you're eating styrofoam with flavor or something.

Anyway, you're trying to tell me the stuff I eat is bad for me but I have been eating junk food since forever, almost on a daily basis, I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and do a forest run for 80 minutes each monday, wednesday and saturday, that's about it. I feel perfectly fine and I haven't been sick for a year.

The reason most people get fat and unhealthy from junk food is that most of them are lazy. Not only too lazy to cook their own food, but also too lazy to exercise which is why they get fat.
I'm not lazy, I just don't have time to prepare a proper lunch because of school so there's no other way for me to get something to eat other than fast food. I hope we are talking about the same thing though, fast food = junk food, right? Btw, do you know what Michael Phelps eats every day? Pizza, chocolate-chip pancakes, toasts with loads of mayonnaise, energy drinks? That's not exactly what I would call healthy food... and that man isn't exactly unhealthy either. Anyway, you keep eating what you want and I keep eating what I want, but I don't think you're going to be any more or less healthy than me.

On the other hand, I don't know what kind of junk food you have in the USA, maybe it's different there.

Usually, junk food has much less nutrients per calorie than "healthy" food. That's why it's called healthy. And since there are less nutrients, not only do you not get enough, you also would have to eat more to fulfill your daily requirements.

You should never compare an average person to somebody like Michael Phelps. That isn't even viable. It's like comparing the fitness of a college student to a professional body builder. One does it as a hobby, the other does it as part of their life. You do your 80 minute forest runs, while Phelps trains for 5 hours a day, every day of the week. There can be no comparison between the two.

It's great you stay fit and keep on top of things eating "junk" food, but how much more fit would you be if you eat healthier? That's the question that keeps me from eating too unhealthy. Most people eat a donut and say, "ok, gotta work that off." I look at the donut and think, "what if I work out and not eat the donut..." Maybe I think too much. You're right, you eat what you want, I'll eat what I want. But don't think I don't enjoy what I eat, I love it. Healthy food doesn't taste boring or like styrofoam to me.

This is kind of getting off topic from what the OP was asking...

OP, you shouldn't eat burger king every 2nd day of the week. The more you exercise, the harder you will have to train to lose the same amount of fat, because your body gets used to it. You have to mix it up, not jog every day, every week, every month. Keep your body guessing, work up a sweat and you'll be feeling fit in no time smile.gif

Yeah, I guess you're right, exercising as much as I do now and eating healthy would be better, but sadly I can't, it's either fast food or starve for me, at least during school days ><. Anyway yeah, let's stop that, I wasn't trying to argue, just trying to make a point that junk food is not aaas bad as most people think it is.

OP: You had better fix your diet, then you'll start to see results. You CANNOT be healthy and consistently eat junk food, even if you exercise a lot.

Pixxel: You claim junk food isn't *aaas bad*? If you know anything about nutrition, you would realize that what it does for your body is absolutely minimal; when your metabolism starts to slow, it can wreck your body because of bad habits. I've seen it happen, former track stars from my college are now obese because they refused to change diet, and slowly lessened their running to zero.

The nutrients provided from junk food are just about useless. You get calories to burn, but *it is possible to be extremely unhealthy and still able to run or compete in sports and seem athletic*. Most people think that because they can run and work out they're healthy. Your body can be in terrible condition internally and you still feel OK because your respiratory and lung systems function fine. Don't lie to yourself here...
