Hi everyone ^^...
Well, summer's almost here (just a few more months and school will be OVERRRRRRRRRRRR (I hate school which comes as a shock to many people that know me for whatever absurd reason)). Anyway, my parents and I have been discussing this (as well as the person who is in charge of my hakwon (cram school)) and I'm most likely going to do an internship this summer.
However, I've been trying to look for internships and basically failing at it because apparently I suck at life and every internship that sounds mildly interesting has the requirement that I be a certain age/undergrad/etc. Which really really really is annoying.
I'm starting to get really scared that I won't find one in time and that I'll end up having nothing to do over the summer which is not good considering I'm a junior right now.
So does anyone have any ideas on how to look for internships in the New York area (preferably in New York City or ...well, Long Island is okay (even though I live on the island, I don't have a ride so I really want one in NYC because it'll be easier for me to go with my dad on the train there and back)? Or know any good internships to check out? Again, I'm currently a junior in high school right now.
I'm leaning towards a law firm, something with the government (like working for a government official like a senator or etc), or psychology. Or possibly something related to books/English/etc. (this is a last resort though because my parents are kind of adamant that I do something with the first two)
Thank you for your help ^^!!!

Straight up make connections. Parents friends', friends parents, teacher's contacts.
Literally here is how I got my internship.
I went to volunteer for a local charity, saw that they needed someone for random administrative tasks (which I could do), did that. Asked for an internship for the year after. Got one...
Haha... ask for what you want, and use the connections you already have. You don't have to hunt for one on the internet.
Wow I am double posting... I feel like a terrible person =P
Anyways I don't know of your religion, but go to your place of worship to find lawyers. Ask your teacher about their lawyer friends, ask your parents about their lawyer friends, ask parents of friends who are lawyers.
Tell them about why you would be good, don't come off as annoying, but be firm in what you want. Internships are pretty cool if you could get it at a cool place. ^^
Or... literally... haha if none of those work, straight up email a law firm... I know it sounds crazy, but like I said... you won't get what you want if you don't ask for it. And worst comes to worst, they say no or just don't reply haha.
I know this seems like intimidating advice... if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.... from my "I got once internship in my life experience" =P

thanks hahn! (okay i saw that that was your name in the class of 2010 thread so please don't think i'm a stalker
) actually, i barely have connections...well, i can't think of any so i'll have to keep looking around.
i asked my mom and she said she doesn't know anyone who could help me and she said that my dad probably wouldn't either. very, very helpful. haha...none of my friends' parents are lawyers ): and i'll try talking to my teacher, but i have no time before spring break = D:!!! and also, i don't know if she knows any places in the city, but i'll try asking her (:!
i was going to email the firms, but i didn't know if that would be kind of uncalled for or something. i'm not sure which firms i should contact either, but i'm trying to look for good ones. i'm guessing all the top ones will not want to give a junior/rising senior in the summer an internship there...unless i say anything i do there is fine (even typing stuff up or cleaning/organizing) just to see what everything's like in a top firm haha...
thanks so much for your help, hahn! (: i'll have to start asking more insistently haha...

Haha whoa, I was scared for a sec haha... No it's no problem, haha I was just like whoa all of a sudden =P
Yeah... the top top firms wouldn't likely have anything avaliable, but there are good firms out there which would love to at least have high school (rising) seniors at their firm. It'll mostly be clerical work, I mean you shouldn't expect to do anything regarding actual cases, but it's all about building connections.
Mmm... ask your teachers, they probably have at least some lawyer contacts. Mmm... also you could try opening up your possibilities. Almost all major companies have some sort of legal department, and even non-profits have some sort of legal department (or at least a lawyer on hand haha) so you should try contacting those places specifically asking for law related internships.
Alright no problem
Oooo...
Also...
Get a LinkedIn Profile.... the whole point of internships is to make professional connections, it's good to keep these professional connections through LinkedIn... great website to do that.
