Feburary 20th, 2009:
TMZ paid $62,500 (wow) for the photo of rihanna (scroll to the end of this post to see the TMZ photo of rihanna). I must say, that is A LOT for a photo. I am a bit relieved though, I thought someone had to sell their leg to get such a photo, (or their soul from a moral view). Either way, Rihannas fans have stepped in and have started a petition!

To TMZ.com Staff,
This petition is addressed to editors of TMZ.com who have posted a photo of injured Rihanna in the eve of her 21st birthday. We - the fans all around the world - feel that this action was very unethical and TMZ showed no respect to Rihannas privacy in these troubled times.
Media nowdays does everything to increse their popularity and often use actions against all moral and ethical principles. We want to prove that we do not support this.
Rihanna is a young and innocent woman and we do not understand why TMZ or anyone who has spread the pictures taken by LA police department, has decided to punish her by posting this violent material in order to gain publicity.
We demand from TMZ editors to post on their website an apologize to Rihanna and her fans for their disrespectful behaviour.
Sincerely,
Undersigned
What do YOU think? Was TMZ within their rights to pay for the photo? I think so. Everything has a price these days in the industry unfortunately.
I fault the police employee who sold the photo not TMZ. They say TMZ gave the cash to a relative of the employee so the money cant be traced back to the employee. I hope that employee is caught and punished to the full extent of the law.

Feburary 20th, 2009:

These days, you can't trust ANYONE in Hollywood! Police officers, Hospital Clerks and Doctors, anyone can be bought for the right price unfortunately. Now, Rihannas father is speaking out about the alleged sale of his daughters photo to TMZ.
Rihannas father, Ronald Fenty, is not happy with the release of a graphic photo of the singer reportedly taken shortly after her alleged altercation with Chris Brown. The photo shows Rihanna, who turned 21 on Friday, with multiple cuts and bruises.
Sloppy work on their part, Fenty told People about the Los Angeles Police Departments handling of the case on Friday.
The LAPD is currently conducting an internal investigation on the leaked photo, which emerged on TMZ on Thursday night and quickly spread across the Web.
The photograph has the appearance of one taken during an official Domestic Violence investigation, the LAPD told Access Hollywood in a statement. The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence. The Department launched an immediate internal investigation and subsequently filed a personnel complaint.
And while today is the singers birthday, her father was unaware of any plans to celebrate.
Theres no party that I know of, he told People.
