My good friend is leaving to the US to study abroad and most likely she won't come back because her family is tehre, so she will look for a job there. I'm quite upset. Would you guys really bother keep in touch with your best friend if he/she's on the other side of the world? you're bound to lose touch with them one day.

yeah, she moved from vienna to new york. everything was so rushed & unexpected.
i just got a call from her when she was on her way to the airport because she herself only found out the day before.
it was okay at first. we tried to keep in touch through msn but the time difference made it hard ;p

then she went to visit after a year and we were shocked. she used to be a girl with curves and she changed i guess.
when she came back she was hella bony. everything was different and she didnt even talk german anymore. like wtf.

she still comes visit once in a while but nobody knows if shes in town, like she doesnt even want her friends to know that shes there.
i know cause i caught her at the airport, like she was about to depart again & i saw my mom off cause she went on vacation somewhere.

well sucks but what can you do. people change you change, just befriend new people lol.

Never say never. Are you telling us that you're just going to give up? We have msn, aim, facebook, soompi and webcams you can't be serious when you're saying you'll never see each other again.

I know this sounds harsh but how can you call each other best friends when you're so easily willing to give up on your friendship. It's okay if you drift apart one day at least you both know you tried to keep it going. When that day comes you'll both realize you were ready to part and move on.

im the one who left in your situation. i moved across the world and left her alone.. i feel terrible for it because we were like a dynamic duo, inseparable.
me and my best friend have not seen each other in more than a year, but we talk and email each other regularly. when we don't speak for a period of time. we trust and know each other well enough to know that we are very busy and that we wouldn't get angry at each other for not having time. and we have a lot of problems that SHOULD influence our friendship , but we never let it.
we plan to visit each other one day.
so if you guys are TRUE friends. then nothing can really stop you from maintaining that friendship that you once had.

a real friend can last 10000 years far far away and still act like brothers when u reunite.

i've had many friends who go away for a year or so and when they come back we dont click like we used to, but then i had ppl who would live and die with me get beat and beat others run from cops and sit in jail with me.

these few few ppl we live our own lives, even not hanging out talking or seeing eachother for over a year or 2 when we meet its as if nothing has changed. we have created our own world where time stands still.

and when we said good bye we said it as if we would see eachother the next day, and 2 years later we said hello as if we saw each other yesterday.

sadly most ppl i know dont have this kinda friend, or they think they do just to discover later that it wasn't. to make just one in ur life time, i think u'd have to be pretty lucky.
