So, what are some things people your age would normally get, that you just don't bother with?

For me:

1. A car - I could get one, but that'd eat into the amount I could save / repay loans each month. I'm living in the so-called "downtown core" of my town, about 5 minutes from work, so it's not such a big deal.

2. Furniture - Yeah, my studio apartment is set up with about $500 of used office furniture. It looks pretty homey, actually. I credit my GF to this.. haha.

It's been a while since I've bought deodorant (about a month). Oddly, I buy two 12-pack of Coke every week. Also, I don't buy books for classes. I try to use other people's laugh.gif

Furniture is overrated. People can sit on the floor. Better yet, the lack of furniture is a deterrent for people to come over and freeload.
I won't bother since I won't read the rules and they won't accommodate.

I don't think I'm that cheap... I have a car, I have furniture in my apartment haha... It's pretty obvious to most people, but I noticed that my spending habits fluctuate on how much money I have (duh) -- so I can get really cheap when I have to but I can spend a lot if I could/wanted to -.-;

I'm not cheap. I'm frugal. I'll spend on things I need and my wants are few and far in between.

Lucky for me, I was able to acquire $6000 worth of nice furniture for my lil' apartment because of my loving bf.

I'm cheap when I need to be, and I splurge when I've got the extra dough. Simple. wink.gif

I try not to spend so much but I have no idea where all my money goes. I tried to keep track of what I spent in a month however I fail to see how this sort of accounting is humanly possible beyond two days.

I don't have a car either, everything's within a few streets so buying one doesn't seem worth it to me just for the odd occasions that I need to leave the area.

cheap is overrated.
no matter what you do, your $$$ still goes somwhere (spending is inevitable).
the only way to be cheap is don't spend your $$$ at all. for eg; live at your parents and beg them not to pay rent, starve yourself, eat your neighbors food etc.

money is money, it comes and go. and 10% of your$ goes to the govt.

and my say to the topic well, i'm cheap when it comes to spending. what i mean by it is, i try to look and compare the lowest price possible when i'm buying something.

When it comes to dating, I'm notoriously cheap and I guess that's why I'll always be a hermit. This one time I was out with a girl for dinner and I asked her what she wanted. "I guess I'll have the steak and lobster," she said. I told her to guess again. This other time, I thought I'd be creative and take a girl out horseback riding. It was pretty cheap and I suppose it was all good and fun - until I ran out of quarters and there wasn't a coin changer to be found. But seriously, aside from my reputation of being a cheap person, others would be surprised to find out how much of a big spender I am. They'd be impressed at how much I spent last year on bounced check fees alone. But eh, I digress. Seriously, the problem with me is not that I'm being so cheap but that I'm in so much debt. My car breaks down, my phone gets disconnected, yada, yada, yada. Now I'm one unpaid electric bill away from being Amish.

i'll like to think of myself as being frugal. at times, i splurge, who doesn't? sometimes, i do feel cheap. blush.gif i think that the average 24 yr olds aren't so tight with money. i do get frustrated that i'm just saving for a big house, it's just me until i get married or something.

overall, it's your money, do whatever you like. being cheap/frugal doesn't hurt. rolleyes.gif

I spend most of my money on books and food. How sad. I spent $50 the other day on Verne and Flaubert anthologies, and four packages of raspberry toaster strudels. Haha this is my life.

Raspberry toaster strudels! w00t.gif I used to LOVE those when I was younger, haven't had them in years. My mom would buy them about four times a year for breakfast as a treat. I so wanna run out and buy a package now...but I'm too cheap. phew.gif I usually refuse to buy food items that cost more than $2.00, but then again I've already been required paid for a meal plan at my college, so I hate spending extra money on food unless it's a social thing. I'll buy food for other people to share sometimes and I'll go out to eat occasionally, I just won't spend the money on food to eat by myself. I also never get drunk because I never buy alcohol--that costs money. My shoes are falling apart, too, but I won't buy new ones until I see holes, dammit.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

It depends....I can be cheap.....but I just have a fine line between wants and needs. I spend wisely.
I don't believe it's important for me to spend money on designer brands to show it off like "I have money." It's not like I'm officially in the job field, maybe I'll get one of those, when I have a stable job. But not now when I'm still in school....or going to zagat rated restaurant all the time...just my 2 cents.

Hmmm, I think I'm an adult now tongue.gif and I don't think there's anything out there that I don't need to buy.

However, of all the things that I do buy, I try and find a practical price.

Recently I'll be purchasing a lounge, home entertainment system, dining set and a bed. All of which will be under AU$10,000. smile.gif

I don't have enough time to spend my money... haha. So my monthly expenses are just rent, utilities and car stuff. But when do spend it.. I buy lenses, computer stuff, clothes occasionally (all I wear are work clothes it seems o.O), wine, presents, etc.
