The series premiered on February 15, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT It airs on Sunday nights on CBS

The Amazing Race, sometimes referred to as TAR, is a reality television game show in which teams of two people (except for The Amazing Race 8, which had teams of four people), who have some form of a preexisting personal relationship, race around the world in competition with other teams. Contestants strive to arrive first at "pit stops" at the end of each leg of the race to win prizes and avoid coming last, which carries the possibility of elimination or a significant disadvantage in the following leg. Contestants travel to and within multiple countries in a variety of transportation modes, including planes, taxis, rental cars, trains, buses and boats. The clues in each leg point the teams to the next destination or direct them to perform a task, either together or by a single member. These challenges are related in some manner to the country or culture where they are located. Teams are progressively eliminated until three are left; at that point, the team that arrives first in the final leg is awarded a large cash grand prize, usually one million U.S. dollars.

It's been quite a while since I've seen a TAR thread, and it's a great show. This season I think is pretty good, considering the teams they choose are pretty entertaining but nothing much can be told yet still the later episodes. They have a first deaf contestant and he's such a sweet heart to his mom I'm leaning towards them but honestly there isn't a team I don't like XD. Makes it quite hard to choose a favorite. We'll see who turns to the villans, who makes alliances, and who comes out on top.

Results

The following teams participated in the Race, with their relationships at the time of filming. Note that this table is not necessarily reflective of all content broadcasted on television due to inclusion or exclusion of some data. Placements are listed in finishing order.

  • Note 1: The U-Turn in Leg 4 was a Blind U-Turn, i.e., Margie & Luke were not required to reveal themselves to the other teams as having used the U-Turn.
  • Red means the team was eliminated.
  • Green means the team won the Fast Forward clue. A green-colored leg number indicates that the Fast Forward was available for that leg but not used.
  • An underlined Blue team's placement means the team came in last on a non-elimination leg. It is unknown for this season what the penalty is if a team comes in last.
  • A brown » means the team chose to use a U-Turn; « indicates the team who received it; «» indicates a leg where the U-Turn was available but not used.

Elimination Station

After teams were eliminated they were sequestered at a villa in Ko Samui, Thailand to await the finale. CBS posted short videos on its website after each episode aired in the Pacific time zone to show the eliminated teams interacting at the villa.

The first episode was HILARIOUS. Oh man, the cheese thing was just too much.

Victor and Tammy were right when they said that their advantage is having known each other (and lived with each other) for so long. It's cute to see the siblings interact. And I thought Victor was so funny when Tammy was complaining about carrying the cheese and he's like, "Just think about those 2-hour long yoga classes you do at home."

Amanda...doesn't...seem like the brightest crayon in the box, I'm sorry. I remember in the second episode, she called Austria Australia, and then she made a grammatical error and Kris corrected her, hahaha.

I just said I'm very fond of the ground on which she walks!"

I agee with Amanda not being the brightest in the next ep they seem to loose their fanny packs, big trouble. Tammy and Victor are adorable together when he was singing she said "stop it" I lol. Her yoga classes will come in handy for the next ep because it seems they will do some gymnastics and it seems they have a little squabble over victor's control issues.

Linda and Steve deserve to go home, she got lost on the marked road which was really not excuse to get lost on. But at least they redeem themselves in the second ep where even though they lost they are happy with each other and what is one million dollars if you aren't happy?

Yeah too bad Amanda and Kris got eliminated. I'm not liking Luke very much. Can someone explain to me why he has so much trouble with the text scramble? He's deaf, not stupid..

^ idk. i think most of them was having trouble. cause they need to spell a Russian name or something and most of them had like no clue how. so i guessed he was frustrated.

^ I think the reason luke didn't get it is not because he's stupid because deaf people in general aren't very well read despite popular belief. If you think about it they have a limited knowledge of certain words that are important for them to learn. But without being able to hear you can't pick up a lot of words and I doubt russian lit is something that he learned. I would't be too harsh on him.

I kinda laugh how some of teams stumble into their way into getting Chekhov like Jaime and Victor just breeze through it. I laugh when he casually said 'who doesn't know chekhov'. So suprise that 'the cavaran of idiots' lol couldn't find the house that needed repair until the camera man casually zooms up to it and they go 'ah there it is' XD.

Surprise that Christine and Jodi got first place but more power to them! Amanda and Kris were a boring couple to be honest, but they weren't that bad though thought they would further. Did anyone notice all the couples got eliminated one after another XD. I can't really predict who would out in the next leg though. Can't wait to see sunday's ep.

^ Deaf people have difficulty reading English (well as in grammar and such) so majority of deaf people hate reading literature related stuff since they get so frustrated with it
Example:
In English we would say "He went to the store to buy some milk."
In ASL they would say or sign "store he buy milk" or "milk he buy".

So I wasn't surprised that he was going to have difficulty with that part since I doubt he read a lot of literacy works.

I think either Mel & Mike or Jaime & Cara are going to be eliminated next.

I absolutely LOVED this season! I was rooting for Victor and Tammy from the get-go, so I was jumping up and down when they won! I think they're the most intelligent team to ever appear on TAR...meaning education-wise. Both did their undergrad at Stanford and graduated from Harvard Law...dang! LOL...When Victor breezed through the 'Chekhov' roadblock, I was super impressed! My new fave team along with Ron-Christina and Danny-Oswald!

There was so much drama the last few episodes, especially at the pit stop at one of the later legs. Sooo awkward...LOL

^ Yeah, I liked Tammy and Victor, even though their lack of trust and refusal to listen to each other was frustrating at times. They also weren't the most involved with the other teams, but they didn't deliberately hurt or help anyone. They basically tried to stay neutral and focus on themselves.

I really thought Margie and Luke were going to win at one point, but man, Victor pulled it all out at the last challenge.

^Hahaha...yeah, I don't think Victor will ever live down Romania! But what's awesome about them is they actually admit and learn from their mistakes as opposed to teams who do the blame-game(not just this season, but in all seasons).

I also thought Margie and Luke might actually win, especially given Tammy and Victor's 3rd place for most of the finale. I would've been okay with them, but not Jaime and Cara (ignorant to a FAULT!). But this IS The Amazing Race and any team can go from being dead last to first in a heartbeat. TAR is a combination of so many factors....teamwork, luck, cab drivers(!!), physical strength, etc...the last roadblock called for brains and that's where Victor was able to utilize his best skill- his brain. As an attorney, you HAVE to have crazy memory skills and be able to work under immense pressure. That was definitely the turning point of the race. And I expected it because the last challenge of TAR is usually something that tests mental ability as opposed to physical, and really...I was 100% confident Tammy and Victor (whoever would've done the challenge) would've been able to make up a lot of ground.

So Yi Jeong and Chu Ga Eul are SoEulmates who believe in Happy Endings...
