More and more people are texting these days. Since I've never caught onto this craze (stupid fees cost me $10 one night), I would like to get a better idea of just how many people are texting, and for what purpose.

Thank you.

Texting is good for conveying quick messages when the other person might not be in a position to actually answer the phone or you can't discreetly talk. If I don't really need to have a full conversation and it's something like a change of plan or an "I'm here, where are you?" then texts work fine. They're also good when you want to have a casual convo back and forth with a friend when you're in class or at a library studying. You know, not that I would ever be texting when I'm supposed to be paying attention or studying, of course. >.> I usually call, though. I don't text for conversation much, just for short, practical messages.

I text ALL the time. I don't know why, it's easier.
I text in class a lot and at work so it's easy then talking on the phone.
Usually it more convenient to send message for directions or a short notice.
I also have unlimited, so I just use it since it's there ^^~

Since people have such a ridiculous amount of minutes, I just call if I need to find out where someone is or expect them to call me back after they have service again/ are capable of doing so. No point texting when I can call. If they aren't free to call then even if they text, you still have to wait for the call in the end anyway.

I'm not much of a texter. I have fat fingers and the whole process is just too cumbersome for me.

I pay 20 cents per text message, so I don't text unless I can't reach the person. XP I don't like leaving voicemails. Maybe it's me, but it takes such a long to create a whole sentence.

Texts are super cheap in Korea, so everyone does it. At first, I thought it was really weird to get really simple things like "good morning" or "what's up?" from friends, since at home, I only used texts to notify people of plans and stuff. I've definitely caught the bug at this point, so I text a LOT. Boyfriend, friends, students (to notify them of classes and such), etc. It's addicting.

Between friends and work i send at least 200 text on any given day.

my friends text me during work hours to chat. my boss text me all the time for random stuff because i work in a different location and she isnt always near a computer to IM me.

I also surf soompi during work hours and post on my phone so I dont get caught by the net nazis.

Actually, I have to text because in my apartment building I have very poor reception. If I get a phone call, I'll be lucky to carry a conversation for more than one minute before the call drops and I lose service temporarily. I just tell everyone I know to text me instead. I got the unlimited family plan. Otherwise, I'll call when I'm not home. Except my parents, they call regardless. But, I'll step out of the building just to return their call.
There's no rejection or failure, only feedback and outcome.

Im a txter!!! In NZ if you are on vodafone, they have this promo called text 2000, which you can text 2000 times for a month for only $10.00, texting is highly used here since calling is very very expensive, besides texting is more discreet.

^ That is a ridiculously good rate. I don't pay for texting services, so it's 20 cents/msg. It's quite annoying when people on AIM text me multiple times in a row, and then I have several dollars worth of fees.

------

I gotta agree. Texting is really practical for sending short messages when you don't have time to converse.

I noticed the whole surge on texting as well, but it seems to me to be more popular with the tweens and teens. I see my younger sister texting ALL the time. I don't remember anyone constantly texting when I was in highschool.

A friend of a friend got a hold of my number and attempted to have a full on conversation via text? Wtf? Ridiculous.

Txting to Indonesia and Singapore from Australia is much cheaper than calling i'd say tongue.gif
and since theres no last minute events or meetings , theres no need for a call to them

if its txting within my own city.. i'd text as reminders or small certain convos
the only time i'd call is if its , "right here , right now" situations where its a meetup and we need exact locations
and txting is too slow..

i usually txt friends when changing plans..
but with my students.. i'd rather not carry on a phone convo, so i txt..
plus in korea, students have more txts per month, so it's ezier for them to txt me.

but calling.. is still the best way to go.. so much easier!

I have unlimited texting so I don't mind the texts. Plus my aim is set up to send me IMs through text if i'm not online. I also get text msgs from business letting me know they deposted money.

I text because sometimes you can't really talk or because you don't have time to sit on the phone and chit chat the whole time. You can just have a conversation with someone at work when you're bored at your leisure.
