Well I hear in accounting you need some statistic (spelling) and I'm going to take a Calc class, but instead I want to take this quarter long Economics class... I plan to major in Accounting, but I'm not sure what I should do with my classes.

Should I take Economics or stay in Calc? I had SOME (little) calc stuff like devrivative.. and integrals (pardon my spelling errors)...but yea..

EDIT:

Btw I learn to take Calc and that's about it. It's not even really needed that much. My school wasn't that strong in the econ dept so I shouldn't have taken it, but it was a fun experience.

You're going to have to take everything you listed above in college for your Accounting major, so it really doesn't matter what you sample in high school.

Yea this is why I don't like asking decision on forums because people should know already because they present it and blah blah.

Anyways yea it's Calculus IB so it's AP like? But yea I'll take out Calc or something.

i donno about how the US college/univ system works but in Canada you need prereq courses to get into the certain programs and calc is manditory for every accounting program in every university here, so i'd take it...and even if it's not manditory i'd rather wet my feet in the course before i get to univ and drown there if you know what i mean...anyway best of luck

Calculus is a good class, and I think a lot of universities require you to take it in university anyway, so it's good to get a head start smile.gif Though if you're not a strong math student..take Calc AB, not BC

hello
i am also considering accounting as one of my choice for college. and i took Calculus AP and am taking Stat AP chose them long before i decide on my career. but nevertheless they will give collge credits and both interesting classes. it was hard but all those derivatives, and functions now i cant recall are easy when you learn them.
and goodluck. are you a senior this year at high school?

I would recommend calculus, especially since AP Calc/IB Calc is easier than many basic college calc classes; I've heard those are common "weeder" classes. Also, a huge percentage of college students change their minds about majors at least once. Calculus is more generally applicable than economics and can get you college credit, too. High school economics classes don't really count for much. If you take economics instead of calculus, you may end up having to start from the beginning in both in college.

yes, i would take calc in high school

in college they don't spend nearly as much time explaining everything, so i could see it being very confusing for those who haven't seen the material before.

accounting can be a very VERY good paying job. my mom's friend's daughter has only been working for less than six years and she makes almost $100,000/year. she has to travel a lot, but it's all expenses paid by the company...

i initially wanted to major in biochemistry/molecular biology because i wanted to go into research field, but...accounting..you just have to do well in your four years of college then pass the cpa exam(is that what it's called?) and right out of college, you're paid at least $50,000/year

my mom has successfully brainwashed me...

ps. calc is EVIL

I would suggest you to take calculus..I did the mistake of not taking calculus and took computer science instead. GRR! And I found out that I have to take Calc classes in college when I enter. So I need to learn calculus during the summer so I don't fail in college lol. But Good luck =D it is very hard sometimes..trig was so much easier =(

I don't know you guys, stop scaring the kid. I'm a senior taking AP calculus (specifically AB) right now and it's actually the second easiest of all five years of high school math I've taken. The easiest was Algebra II/Trig, but AB Calc is seriously not a killer class at all (BC is much faster and more confusing, though) unless math is REALLY not your thing. If that's you, then why do you want to be an accountant? Accountants deal with numbers even more than they deal with people; my mom's an accountant, so I know. Besides, calc in high school is easier and more painless and easier to get help with than just starting in college.
