Hey. I'm a sophomore at a university in the US and I don't drink. I've never even tried a sip! It's just a personal choice and I totally have nothing against people who do drink. My friends all do, but they don't pressure me to. But i was just wondering if anyone else doesn't. It's really hard because it seems like everyone does! But it does not smell appealing and I always see people making fools of themselves when they're drunk and I don't want that to be me. It just seems like I'm the only one who doesn't sometimes!

I'm also a sophomore (well, second year university student in Canada, which is the exact equivalent, just different terminology) and I don't drink. I don't find it that hard not to, though. Some of my friends do sometimes and it happens around all the time, but I feel zero pressure to drink and generally have no trouble avoiding those types of situations. When my friends go to clubs or pubs to drink I just don't go; I join in when we do non-alcoholic stuff, which is most of the time. It might depend on your school somewhat, but most people here drink a lot, too, so I don't know. If your friends are a good match with you then it's not hard to not drink. I don't have any moral objection to it or anything, I just don't want to drink because I'm not interested and don't see the point, and my friends don't really care. They're too busy studying, working, volunteering or just hanging out most of the time to even drink much themselves.

I don't drink either even though most of my friends are casual drinkers. I think more important than finding friends that match with you on your personal choice is to find friends that are supportive of your choice--the kind that doesn't pressure you into doing whatever you don't want to do. And I am lucky to say that I have such a network of friends.

I agree completely. If my friends want to drink, that's their deal...I'd rather they didn't, but it's their choice. As long as they don't pressure me to do stuff I don't want to do, I'm fine.

I only drink on special occasions like a friends birthday or something but.. for the most of this year i didn't drink. just don't feel like it. I feel like the weekends better spent relaxing and catching up on sleep since weekdays are stressful. >< so I guess you can say I don't drink haha.

I try to stay away from drinking. I've probably only drank about 2-3 times since college (I'm a sophomore now).
Even when I do drink , I don't go overboard. I think it's ridiculous and stupid how college students think that drinking and getting completely trashed is the way to have fun.
I think the reason they drink is so they can brag all about it the next day, and feel important, get sympathy from people...

like "omg I was sooo wasted, I don't remember anything"

and me and my group of friends don't really have a problem with that regardless of the fact that the rest of drink every so often.

I'm a freshman and I don't drink. None of my friends drink either, even if they're 21. People in my high school drink when they're like 14.

Drinking isn't a requirement to be a college student, although a lot of people probably think it is ><; But seriously, there's plenty of people in college who drink and still have great social lives. You don't have to be drunk all the time to have fun. Personally, I think getting drunk is stupid and you usually end up making yourself look either stupid, slutty, or both.

Thanks for all the replies. It's cool that I'm not alone. It feels like everyone here drinks except me! Fortunately my friends don't drink often and they don't pressure me when they do. I still hang out with them when they drink. I just laugh at them making fools of themselves though.

My friends drink, I still hang out with them, they like to go out a lot.
While I'm constantly tired because of my class schedule and activities I do =_=
I hate drinking unless it's a mixed drink, ugh the taste of alcohol is not pleasing it tastes like nail polish.

i don't drink a lot but i can hold my own liquior.
i only drink during special occasions, or when my friends throw a random party with liquior.
but other than that i don't touch a drop of it.

Drinking isn't necessarily bad if you do it in moderation.
