Ok, so I'm getting my license soon, but I'm currently looking at cars for when I get it. I'm not a advanced driver, so I'm not looking at something too fancy or anything, just something that'll do for me when I'm at school or work.

Type of car (sporty, luxury, economy, SUV): mid- size car, 4 seater
Price range: up to maybe $30,000- $35,000
New or used: new
Manual or automatic: manual
Years of driving: newbie
Cars currently suggesting: i've heard the prius was nice, but I'm not so sure about hybrid's... right now, i'm up for any suggestions. im also looking at the yaris.
Needs and other info (do you need passenger room, cargo space, AWD, etc): extra passenger space, i know this sounds weird, but i'd want a lot of room in the car (like... it could be mid- size and 4 seater, but the interior would be huge)... plus, i'm not an expert driver so i'm not looking for anything too difficult to control

I have like... no knowledge of cars and i wanna do my research before i buy anything (especially something as serious as a car) and any car i look at right now always seems so nice xD, so any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance! smile.gif

Maybe get a Corolla, Camry, or Accord, those cars are really easy to drive.

Yeah, I was looking at pictures of the Corolla and it definitely doesn't seem too hard to navigate and it's price is around 15,000 so would that be reasonable? Do Corollas usually have good reviews?

I'd say don't spend too much money on your first car... save it for other things, such as college and other expenses.

In my signature check out the link for some basic cars (good for starters).

I got a toyota rav4 and I never regretted it. It's not too bad on gas but because it does have 4WD it is safer than small cars in snow. I live in a snowy area which is why I chose an SUV but I might have thought differently if I lived in a place with nice weather
S'all good!

A Camry is a good option. The interior is huge. Or you could look at some mid-sized SUV's the others have suggested.

I had a question though. You're just getting your license now and you said you weren't an advanced driver. My question is can you drive manual? =)

Yeah, I could drive manual... actually, that's the only thing I know how to drive. I'd assume automatic is when the car drives itself? xD

Well, I live in NY so we're really... seasonal, I guess?
And I don't really think I would want an SUV, mainly because the family car is one, and I don't plan on bringing a lot of people into my car, so yeah xD

that's a really wide selection range...

maybe if you narrow it down further you can get a better opinion...

your profile says brooklyn...is parking a problem? I wouldn't get an SUV for sure unless you need it...

^+1 on parking

honestly you don't need a car since you live in nyc area. Public transportation is everywhere to get around.

but if you do insist of having a car, don't get expensive car as your 1st car. You're bound to mess up and it's costly to repair. My suggestion is 09 Honda Fit, easy to park and roomy. Just lock up your wheels smile.gif

First car? ... Honda Civic. LOL. They're cheap and you won't cry too much when you get it into an accident. tongue.gif

The thing is, I don't know what's cheap (like range wise) when your talking about a car...

^what you consider cheap might be expensive to others.

sit down with your parents and ask how much are they willing to spend on your first car.

You got a lot of money to spend on for a beginner driver. I suggest you just pick a wagon of some sort if you want lots of space. Since you're a beginner driver, pick something safe, you will scrach/dent/crash the car. How about a Mazda 3 wagon or a Subaru WRX?

a mini john works cooper is your best bet if you're in nyc. cut thru traffic, squeeze into parking spot, nice torque/hp, and good gas mileage. all in one econ package. and u mention u not bringing alot of people in your car.

i'm sure u can afford it wink.gif

My boyfriend got his civic for a grand ... that's what I mean by cheap. Plus, especially if you go to college, you don't want a nice car. Even if you're a good driver ... doesn't mean everyone else is ... sweatingbullets.gif

Aiming high, huh?
I won't bother since I won't read the rules and they won't accommodate.

Okay, that does not sound cheap at ALL to me wacko.gif lucky you.
Cheap to me is like $0-$8k

Test drive a couple of cars, like the ones listed. I test drove the yaris and I thought it was really loud...

I wouldn't buy a new car if you are an inexperienced driver, especially in your area. If you get a scratch on it then... tears.gif . If you're going to college soon, how come you need a car??
Ooh, life is good. ♥ :)

I'd start with the new WRX. I didn't like the hatch until I got to look at one for awhile in the parking lot. Looks real nice.
