I was charged $270 from the dealer for my '08 Rabbit. I think I got ripped off... It seemed insanely high, but I don't know anything about cars.

in the automotive service industry..
even if the parts are cheap, you'll get owned by the labour.
at a dealership, i can guarantee that.

LOL omfg $270? Labor cost me $30.. Did the maintenance myself lol.
you mean parts, not labor. whats the 10k service? a oil change? if so a simple oil change shouldnt cost you $270. although vw are harder to change oil and need special tools for it. my friend just changed his own oil on his gti and it was about $60-70 in parts.

I think it really depends on where you live.
What I get done here in MI for $30-40, my cousin gets charged $150+ in MN (and we both drive Toyotas and get it serviced at the place of purchase). I get a discount too, that probably helps.

10,000 mile?... when we took the odyssey in for that, they wanted some $350 for something as simple as, cabin air filter, engine air filter, oil change, and checking the tires -.-... we decided to just do it our selves. cost us 30 bucks since oil change is free at the dealership since we bought the car there haha.
