(probably belongs in the rant thread but whatevs, it has more meaning in this section)
Today marks the 3rd time, in just half a year, where someone backed up without really looking behind. Though today was only the first time my car wasn't touched.

So my bro and i were headed to in n out for lunch today when i was headed towards the drive through behind a honda odyssey. The lady driving the car suddenly stops, and im thinking ''WTF are you stopping for?'' Since we're nowhere near the worker taking orders outside. And to my horror and surprise she starts backing up. I quickly look behind me to reverse out of her way but there was an escalade right behind me as well and i didn't want to hit that car. So i quickly honked and she still didn't stop or realize, at that point she was at least less than a foot away. I honk a second time and longer and she still doesn't hear it or realizes the honking is directed towards her and is rightbehidn her, till she's literally less than 3 inches away. She turns around and gives me a look as if it was my fault for appearing out of nowhere and gives me these exaggerated gestures. The escalade then reverses and goes through another way, while i reverse to let her through. Which i then find out she's trying to do a u-turn of some sort in a ONE WAY lane in a small area with parked cars on both sides. When i finally have an opening, i gave her my thoughts and well deserved gesture by flipping her off. Maybe i sound like a jerk but it still pisses me off. Especially when after i flipped her off, she still put on a show as if she didn't do anything wrong and it was my fault

maybe im just way too protective of my new car =/

well the odyssey is a big van.. I drive it every time I'm coming to school and lucky for me and my parents, we got the navi which comes with the backup camera. I don't know what kinda car you're driving but it can be hard to see cars through the back of the van.. but I would've done the same thing as you... (flip her off) haha I hate people who don't look before backing out too..

sometimes you have to wonder if the DMV test is really enough to prove that you can drive competently. i think its retarded when people try to back up when they don't look or over estimate the space that they have. what really ticks me off is when people don't freaking SIGNAL, when they just cut you off. I got tired of flipping people off, I just tell myself .. they'll get what deserve eventually.

Yesterday while I was at Diamond Plaza, a G35 decided to back right into me. An E320 decided to park in the MIDDLE of the road to wait for a parking spot so I had to squeeze through the right to pass him but while I was making my way forward, the G35 parked on the right of me (there is literally only less than a foot between us) started to reserve. I saw his brake lights going on and just when I was thinking to myself "oh no, he wouldn't", he started backing out. Mind you, my car was right behind his so there is absolutely no reason why he wouldn't see me. I fanatically honked a couple of times and thank god he stopped just in time not to hit me. He hesitated for a few seconds before moving back into the parking spot to let me pass. You wouldn't want to know what I'd have done if he t-boned the car I just got a month ago. I am sure he wouldn't have liked to pay fixing the entire left flank of a M6 either.

This reminds me of the accident that occurred at the plaza right across Mt. Sac as well. Just two days ago, while I was going to grab a drink at Lollicup, two car started to reserve at the same time while I had the right of way since I was going straight. I tried to be courteous and let them go first (much to the dismay of the white truck behind me who wouldn't stop honking and flipping me off) but I never expected both of them to back out at the same time. So as you can guess, they bumped right into each other before I even had the time to warn them (all the while, the Caucasian female behind me is still cursing away). This actually made me wonder whether if the accident would have occurred if I didn't wait for them to reverse or would I have been hit by one or perhaps even both of them?

But seriously, I really don't get why people just won't look when they back out? What if it was a person that is behind and not a car? Sure, a vehicle can be fixed but can one reverse the injuries done to a pedestrian due one's own negligence? So please, I pray to Buddha, God and the Dalai Lama, if you are a driver who doesn't look while backing out, PLEASE start doing so now, if not for your own sakes, but for the sakes of others.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on the way to school. Some crazy lady backs up and doesn't stop when i honk the horn. She hits me, then she DRIVES OFF AS FAST AS SHE COULD and dropped her kid off. I saw her driving home 2mins later after parking. I didn't bother chasing her.. the nails in my license plate did more damage to her van than her van to my car. Plus I was late for my quiz sweatingbullets.gif

I almost got backed into one day. I had just gotten boba and was leaving. I was waiting for this Benz to back and leave when I see this Sequoia SUV starting to back straight into my passenger door. So I look behind and stuck it in reverse fast. In short, that really ticked me off.

One of my old friends has backed into many cars because he doesn't bother looking.

^ Richard, you know lotta people in Rowland can't drive, esp the rich ones. Everytime I'm at Diamond Plaza I'm stuck behind someone who decides to park in the middle to drop off people by the elevator or wait for parking. I've also seen some people try to go against traffic towards the exit because they're either that dumb or they're too lazy to make the U at the center. So I've seen the security make them back all the way up and follow traffic or people just block their way so they have to back up and go with traffic lol.

I don't think it's being too protective, I think it's just avoiding the hassle. sleep.gif

I just wonder about people who don't look though -- are they willing to spend the money to fix someone else's car or hospital bills? I always look so I don't ruin my car. T_T

LOL, I share your guys' pain. I encounter at least 2 bad drivers everyday and it is amazing how some people passed their driving test. The thing that ticks me off the most are those who don't use their turn signals. An example would be when you're driving on a 50 mph limit and all a sudden a car in front of you just stops and turns right sleep.gif or people who just cuts you off.

That's why back up camera's were invented, I'm not saying they're a replacement for looking back but it helps for seeing things below the vehicle.

I almost backed into a guy at work cuz he decided to tie his shoe right behind me

Luckily the screen showed him before I moved

There are so many stupid and dangerous drivers. People that don't check their blind spot before changing lanes, people that merge onto the freeway at 35 mph, etc. ROAD RAGEEEEE!!!!

my dad's truck got hit twice because idiotic people backed up into it without looking.
they then blamed him for parking and waiting infront of our house..uh sure bud

but i see people reversing in odyssey's without looking (my friend does too), the only reason is because she has the navi and it comes w/ the camera=o so who knows xD they should still look back once in a while

OMG, these people annoy the crap out of me. My car almost got hit one time because this idiot was on a rampage and pulled out at like 40 MPH...and he acted like it was my fault for being behind him.
