How Do You Know if your 'friends' are your lifetime's friends?

BECAUSE friendships can last short..
Sometimes I wonder how will you ever know if they will be by your side in your life?
Is there any particular behaviour that you already can sense that he/she is your lifetime's friend?

P.s I feel empty when my friends believe they 'are' your lifetime's friends yet they behave the other way round.
(are you with me?)

we can't really know for sure in a short period of time. it requires time and experiences with those you consider friends. and the genuine ones would of course stand out from the rest coz they're there in your times of trouble and misery.

Shouldn't this be in the love & relationships thread? (: Anyway, I don't know... honestly. I think you just have to trust them. Me and my best friends don't see each other often because of college. I only see them once every few months. But despite of that, when we get together and hang out, we know that the bond is still there. Right now, I think what's important is the fact that they are with me through everything that happens.

over time you can tell. as you see how your personalities mesh, how you reconnect and go through different phases of life.

Yep, it's their behavior. The friend's who last long are the one's who u don't think badly of.
Like say, if they gave u an advise, u trust that whatever they saying it's for the good.
Also a true friend wouldn't be a hypocrite, if u have a friend who tell's u something but they wouldn't do themselve, this friend wouldn't be the one u want to be friends for a long time with.

But it's true, there are some friends who come & go. Real friends stay.

Yeah. You can never know. I mean, someone may even act like your lifelong friend one day (be with you in your toughest hour, etc) but one day he/she may no be there for you anymore because they changed or they experienced something and it may have nothing to do with you, it's them. And you can't predict how someone is going to change.

So you can't hold on to anyone too hard. It's like that holding sand in your hand metaphor. Just try to be a good friend to everyone you consider a friend right now and be happy if you get to be friends for a long time. =)

Lol, I've always wanted that 'true' friend that's been there for you since elementary school. Seriously, all those friends who go around saying they're going to be best friend forever are probably not. A lifetime friend is one that relates to you, you've grown on them, they've rubbed off on you, and you've had many experiences together and love each other. Unfortunately friends come and go throughout middle and high school. I'd say its likely you'd meet a lifetime friend in college. It's pretty hard to find a lifelong friend and only few people can fulfill that spot.

Why bother thinking about them? think about you for a second.
Will you be with them forever?

You know, I've always been really close to most of my new friends. but as time goes, I began getting bored of them, eventually just being friends, not close friends anymore.

That's just part of life I guess.

It take's two to tango. If u are not the type of person to keep up with friendship, then they will leave u.

They may try to contact u, but u got to do something too. It's not one-way. It's both-ways.

lol, well, my friends and i have been friends for a LONG time and we don't even live near each other anymore. It's sort of just like, when you can call them up and the both of you can immediately pick back up like nothing happened. Plus, they have to be able to be there for you in times of need and not just be using you for your vulnerability. You'll know if they really want to be your friend. it's sometimes a gut feeling too.

1. if we were emotionally attached.
2. if we had the same goals in life.

love and reason. who'da thunk it. [o_O' wtj. thunk is a word? ..onomatopoeia?]

all the other friends that you use to drive you around, snatch food off every friday, hang about just to laugh around,
they'll be around.. just not by your side_ if you're not bumming around at home, ready to go out with 'em, of course.
you end up taking up a trade, working full-time or w/e. perhaps see them several times a year. you've got a new group of friends you're not that close to, but more of a 'work colleague' type that you might or might not invite to parties.

unless you're all that willing to stick by 'em. o-0' nothin' like high school friends. haha.

I've always believed that some people were just meant to be in your life for a certain period of time and then leave once the time is right.

Who knows if you'll remain friends forever? It's not something you can tell from the friendship you have at the moment because people are constantly growing, experiencing new things and they change when you least expect it.

After highschool, after UNI or College, they'll still stick around, then thats your lifetime friends.
