Do you get transient insomnia (a temporary condition that can last a few days to a few weeks where you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep) when you're stresssed or really depressed? How did you solve it?

So.. I think I fell in love with this guy, and he just inspired me so much and he was such a great friend. And he didn't feel the same way and I quit my job working with him because of how awkward it was. I just wanted a break from him and some time to get over him. Out of sight, out of mind. Now ever since I quit, I've been having constant nightmares. I can't fall stay asleep. I would wake up 6-7 times a night and I don't even use an alarm to wake up anymore. It's crazy. I would go to bed at 11 and wake up at 6 and probably get 3 hrs of sleep? It's getting to such a bad point where I fall asleep at random times. I don't even try. I just close my eyes and I'm out. I keep getting detentions in school cause I keep falling asleep in class. Like during lunch, or on my desk, or on the bench in the lockerroooms! It's getting to a point where it's taking over my life. I get really tired during the middle of the day. I barely have any energy anymore. I think it's psychological problem, relating to him.... Has this happened to any of you? How did you deal with it? ))))=

Sounds tough. sad.gif

I've heard that drinking a glass of warm milk before going to bed helps. How long have this been going on? Since it's a temporary condition, I'm sure it will fade away in time. I think that everybody that goes through something such as rejection or whatever, has an anxiety-thing going on that causes a lack of sleep/or nightmares.

I've never experienced this but I just wanted to drop by to say that I hope it goes away soon!

^yes milk does help, but it doesnt have to be warm or hot or cold ~ its just the milk itself

As for your insomnia problem, yes it is psychological, and yes i know a lot of people experience this. Firstly ... i dont suggest TRYING to forget someone, or getting over him, just let it flow, i mean, time passes by fast, and life is short, if it works out, why not? if it doesnt, then let it do so itself. Secondly, you're still able to fall asleep, so its not insomnia, you just cant sleep at night, because every night before you sleep, you're thinking "oh my, will i be able to sleep at night? maybe i should try this, or try this, or try this" ~ and you've forgotten those days when you COULD fall asleep, which are times when you dont actually THINK about HOW to sleep.

Bottomline, let everything go naturally, if you cant sleep at night, then so be it, dont force yourself, do your homework. Let everything go naturally, dont think about it too much, and it'll go back to normal.

Go play some sports and get exhausted. I don't think you should let a guy do this to you.

i have light to mild insomnia, and i would go to bed at aroung 12 am in the morning, but i wouldn't be able to fall asleep until 2 or 3, so i only end up with 3 to 4 hours of sleep :/ then after school, i would fall asleep for like 3 hours.

yes, milk does help, because it gets you sleepier. i think i think too much at night, hence why i cant sleep. probably just stressed about school and boy problems lol

i've been suggested to talk about what you might be stressed about during the day so it might be off your back when you try to sleep at night.
and dont use the computer half a hour before you go to bed, cos theres some stimulation in your brain that makes your brain think theres still a while before you sleep. (due to lighting as well)
