Has anyone ever seen a fellow student cheat on an exam and got caught? What is the policy at your university? Do they automatically get kicked out?

My roommate got caught plagiarizing an essay off my dormmate.

As much as I love my roommate, she only got away with getting a 0 for that essay! She was lucky.

My college treats it like high school does. If a prof catches you, they may be lenient and pull the whole "don't do it again" deal. It doesn't go for everyone though.

If you mean about papers and whatnot, you get the boot at my school, no if's-and's-but's about it.

Depends on the professor here.. but normally they just give them an F for that test and tell them not to do it again. But if it happens a second time, I think there's more serious consequences.

it really depends on the professor. some would just let it pass and remind the class, in general, about cheating.
but some would not allow you to continue the exam.

they emphasize it on the syllabus, and the professor also mentions it when talking about papers, essays, research papers. it is not worth it. by doing your own work and works cited and footnotes, you learn from it and feel accomplished proud when you make a good grade on the paper.

It's easier to cheat on exams with multiple choice.

Besides that, it really depends on departmental policies and university policies. One thing that will get ruined is your ability to get letters of recommendation from the professors of that department. People usually get caught because they are not discreet, but I know plenty of people who succeed and pass through the system by cheating. If you do get caught and it's permanently marked in your transcript (or risk expulsion), it's usually a good idea to hire a lawyer.

I've never actually seen someone get caught cheating, but a girl I know cheated off of my quiz a few times in chemistry and it pissed me so bad. I could have told on her but I didn't. I think for most classes here, you get an F for the course and they might expel you.

i saw many students cheating during exams, even though my uni policy says that all cheating students will be expelled, however not all.
one my course friend was caught cheating during geometry, the professor told her to leave and he wrote her 0 grade and was going to decane to tell about the expeltion, however she sooner went to him and asked to change major and start from the 1st course again.so she wasnt expelled
and i hate some people from my faculcy who pretend to be smarter cuz got into better major, but i see them cheating during exams and getting good grades and it pisses me off,cuz some professors dont really care about the chaeting thing if they dont see with their own eyes students cheating sad.gif

a few people were caught cheating in a quiz recently - my professor got so pissed off. at first we thought she was just over-reacting and joking, but then she issued an official announcement that if she caught anyone else cheating, she would report it to the dean and suggest kicking the student out of the course =/

i think it depends on the university... it should be stated in the student handbook about what sort of administrative actions they would take if caught...

its a lot easier to cheat for tests than papers. my professors take it really seriously for papers, they fail the students and goes on record.

cheating is pointless in college...after all, you're paying major bank to actually learn useful stuff for life.

my friend got caught for copying some other guys program, and he ended up failing the course cuz of that.

I have never seen it. A kid had his ipod on once, and they just make him take it off without a big deal.

I would never try it, although sometimes I keep writing for like 15 minutes after they say to hand it in. I swear I have had the person come around and rip it out of my hand. Not my fault I get distracted and need more time!! tongue.gif
you couldn't have looked more lovely
