Anyone else ever had this dessert before??

I just had some for the first time Thursday at this restaurant that was just built next to my school called "Ba Le Deli". (<-- if you go to UT in Arlington TX, you should really check that place out. Delicious food and for a great price)

But it's basically only 4 ingredients in it...
Black Eye Peas || Sticky Rice || Coconut Milk || Sugar
(well 5 if you add water too... only to cook the peas and rice)

It's an acquired taste.. but it's pretty yummy biggrin.gif
Has a nice texture (at least when it was cold.. this will be my first time having it warm since I'm cooking it now)

There were some other desserts I saw in there.. Not sure what they were called, but one had Corn & Tapioca..
Another one had a bunch of different beans layered on top of one another
(I think it had coconut milk in it as well)

^ I can't eat che bap anymore, its too sweet for my tastes now O_o guess I ate too much of it when I was little lol..

I do love che dau trang though! But when my mom and aunts make it, they're usually a lot thicker than the ones in the pics above

yeah the one I got from Ba Le Deli wasn't watery like in the picture I posted either >_<
it was served cold and it was thicker (the one in the photo is warm)
almost had the texture of ice cream in a way.. or frozen yogurt
This was 2 of the few clear photos I could find on the net
The one I had pretty much looked like this though
(But the beans were mixed in with the milk and not separated like in the pic)

Oh cool!! another person here from UTA too.. I think I've only seen a few people in the labs come on this site.
But yeah.. def check that place out. I recommend the Lemon Grass Pepper Beef Rice Place. That'
s probably the best thing they have there. I let all of my friends taste it and now that's all they order lol.

CoffeeTea
Well I'm not Vietnamese either and I ate it lol. I'm not even asian lol.. But I've really enjoyed every Vietnamese dish I've tasted (Like Pho Bo... and some rice porridge my best friend's mom made... I think it had duck eggs & cooked clams in it, even though I picked those out of there lol... But there is a nice flavoring in all of the foods I've tried.)

My church sells it to get money for our new church. Since my mom is part of the kitchen crew at my church, she makes it a lot and its really good. I like it better without the corn though.

^$3.50 is a lot!!! (almost a rip off to be perfectly honest)

i've never hard it warm right off the stove only a reheat from the microwave, mostly buy from the store....I enjoy eating it every now & then but too much is bad cuz of the coconut milk.
