Usually you really can't tell them apart other then their accents on how they speak Mandarin.

And yes , Hong Kong people are still considered Chinese

Yes, the accent is a big point. The way how they dress is pretty individual, too.

What she said.
Those who are Taiwanese are still technically Chinese.

Their both the same people. The only thing different is probably the language and the nationality, though a majority of Chinese speak mandarin.

Like what many others have said. I can only tell through the accent.

*cough* debatable.

However, Taiwanese are chinese. You tell them apart by their political stance.

There are indigenous Taiwanese, but even them I can't tell apart. Majority of Taiwanese people are of Han descent, or any of the other mainland 'clans' (sorry using outdated terminologies - don't mean to offend my lovely Chinese friends out there).

I usually just ask them straight out.

The way they dress is a big clue...and obviously their accents. I don't think they look much different, really.

Accent is teh mostest importantest.
It's still the same language though,
so i don't know why it would matter.

Easy, by their accent.
Mainland Chinese have stronger accent and these from Beijing or Shanghai have bigger build bodies than Taiwanese.
Taiwanese people are mixed with Austronesian native when mainland Chinese are mixed with Mongol, Manchu, Miao, Tibetan, Uyghur, Korean and other ethnics.
