I'm an Australian Born Viet, so I don't know much about Vietnamese music except the ones I hear when I cross my mum's room while she's watching those things like Paris By Night and Van Son, etc.

I had friends in high school that were like crazy about viet music and listened to that and totally loving it.

I'm actually listening to SOME viet songs that I so happened to download in year 9 and viet music ain't too bad. I actually want to listen to more of it but don't know where to start like what's new and good? What's hip in Vietnam LOL?! I like Ung Hoang Phuc and that's all I know!

Does anybody here who's like Viet but like born in the states or whatever listen to viet music?! Some recommendations on what's good please!

I don't know a lot of artists, but I got into a couple when I was dating this Vietnamese guy haha

My favorite would have to be Luong Bang Quang, he's a pretty upbeat, techno-pop singer

And the girl groups H.A.T and May Trang
and I've grown a soft spot for male singer Ung Hoang Phuc after all the compilations he's done with H.A.T haha

Only viet song i listen to is xe dap - Thuy Chi ft. M4U good song xD

I don't have many chances to listen to Vietnamese music regularly, but I like Thuy Chi very much

. She sings rather beautifully.
I also like Dinh Manh Ninh of M4U, with the song called "Bai Ca Tinh Yeu" (Shore Of Love).
There are some 'hits' such as "Chiec khan gio am" of Khanh Phuong, "Em trong mat toi" of Nguyen Duc Cuong... U should try them ^^

You should definitely try Th�y Chi (female solo singer) and M4U (a male group) like the previous repliers suggested. They have great music and sing beautifully, although I'll admit not all of the songs are original. I also recommend:
male - Ng� Kiến Huy, Lương Bằng Quang, Đan Trường, Ưng Đại Vệ, Quang Vinh, Nhật Tinh Anh, Đo�n Việt Phương, Duy Mạnh
female - Cẩm Ly, Lọ Lem (group), Thu Thủy

Chiec Khan Gio Am is the hottest song there right now according to my bf who just got back.
I really recommend Vietnamese music instead of overseas.
The only problem with some right now that really irks me is that they do way too much 'covers'.
Please just stay away from Bao Thy. I thought she was ok but all of her songs have been 'cover' versions and even her MVs are copied from others.

Like already recommended, Luong Bang Quang is real good. UHP, I find him to whiny at times but his new stuff is pretty good.
Most of the duets are very good.
I'll just recommend songs instead since there are a couple of artists that are already recommended for you.

The Vietnamese music industry itself is broken into two. The overseas one (Vietnamese American music industries) and the Vietnamese music industry in Vietnam. Check out Trung Tam Asia, Thuy Nga (Paris By Night), and Van Son. Those are the three most famous overseas Vietnamese music productions.

Overseas Vietnamese artists sing old Vietnamese pop songs. War songs, folklore songs, etc. These songs are better than new school pop. Vietnamese singers in Vietnam sing new Vietnamese pop songs. A lot of Vietnamese singers from Vietnam these days do Viet covers of Korean and Taiwanese pop.
