So... yeah. I'm 19 and have never had a real relationship. And there's this guy I'm friends with. We are not best friends or anything. We are part of the same group of friends and I see him at college everyday and all that, but we don't have this deep friendship. I have always had something for him, because he is really cute and funny and intelligent, but never really allowed myself to like him.

But I like him now (surprise, surprise).

The problem is, I am terribly insecure about the situation. He is really affectionate with his girl mates and is always hugging us and stuff, so I don't really think he treats me in a special way but... sometimes I think he does. Sometimes we're just standing there, doing nothing, and I suddenly realize we're holding hands. He was hanging out at home last Saturday and started tickling me. I don't know how, but I ended up sitting on his knees while his arm was around my waist and his hand on my hip. And he put his arm around my shoulders and made me lean against him a few times while watching a film. And there was this phase he went through where he used to make jokes like "Oh, girl, I like you" every now and then - and I've never heard him make this jokes to his other girl friends.

I know he's looking for a girlfriend now, and we seem quite alike, but I can't help feeling insecure about everything. I want to tell him what I feel (even if he doesn't feel the same way about me), but I'm too afraid he'll reject me, because I don't want to lose his friendship and make things weird and uncomfortable for us and for the rest of our friends.

Do you think it's worth it? What shall I do?

You have to approach him.
If you honestly want to find out that if he feels the same way about you or not, then there's only one way to find out: by talking to him.
It's better then you thinking about it the whole time and having the thoughts stuck on your mind.
Usually guys make the first move when they like a girl.
Your friendship with him doesn't necessarily have to end just because there's a chance that he will say no.
Make sure to let him know beforehand. tell him how you feel about him, but also let him know that you don't want to ruin the friendship with him in case he rejects =/. (but let's believe that won't happen) Make sure to include all of that in your conversation with him.

You lose nothing by taking this risk. He won't hate you for falling for him. You aren't best friends so you won't be losing an incredible friendship.
Most likely he will either like you back or if not it will be normal. He'll probably be more confident around you since he knows you already like him.
