Not sure if anyone has heard about this but Disney just started a new label called Disneynature (I heard about it a few months ago) - it's pretty much another division of the studio that puts out movies all things Nature related (pretty obvious from the title rolleyes.gif ). So anyways EARTH is their first film and I fell in love with the trailer.

Plot wise the film is more of documentary but it follows three families of polar bears, whales and elephants thru their respective habitats. Seems like a great idea to me considering the increasing move toward preservations and protection.

here is the trailer and images.

I want to see this movie so much!:D
But I agree with the other person, it does look like the footage in Planet Earth. The scene on the trailer with the lil baby ducks falling off the nest to the leaves looks excactly like the one in Planet Earth.
&& The movie is being released on earth day which is pretty cool too smile.gif
The footage looks amazing, can't wait to see it!

I was a huge Planet Earth fan- I seriously set aside Sunday evenings just to watch that show on the Discovery Channel. Glad to hear someone else watched it AND wanted to let you know that EARTH has some footage from Planet Earth as well as a bunch of news stuff - like focusing the movie on just the three animal families and James Earl Jones is narrating the film. I am really excited to see the new footage consider how much I also enjoyed the trailer.

the official site explains some of the connections to Planet Earth and has some more video clips- love this stuff! Did anyone watch the making of feature about filming the whales?

Same! But another huge draw for me is seeing this type of nature documentary on the big screen. Just seeing the trailer in the movie theater was mesmerizing - that plus the new footage...I am so there on April 22nd.

The official sites feature on filming the shark attack was so unbelievable. Just watching it taped on a regular camera seemed like a flash and that was it but when they used that special camera and showed it in slow motion, the image was so vivid. I'd never thought a Great White shark was so graceful.

I recommend this documentary to everyone. It's gorgeous and breath-taking. I have bought it on DVD. Please watch it in cinemas - otherwise you will regret it for sure. It should be visually stunning. I haven't seen this in the cinema, and I strongly regret it.

I've been asking around and from what I know the new film releasing in the US on April 22nd (Earth day- very appropriate) has a new narrator, James Earl Jones, new commentary plus different footage added.

Bwear- do you think you'll check out the new film in the theater?

I've also been keeping tabs on the film thru the facebook page- nice to have all the images, trailers ect ect in one place (especially considering that I spend a ridiculous amount of time on that site already).

I would love to, but I don't think it's possible. It was released here in cinema 2 years ago, so I don't think they will show it again.

Earth is basically Planet Earth, with some new footages added to suit it the big screen - atleast that's what I have heard (I haven't seen Planet Earth, so I can't judge).

It's pretty good having James Earl Jones as the narrator, it's like having Simba's (Lion King) dad talking to you about the circle of life again haha It really does have that Planet Earth feel, but at least it's differs by focusing on 3 animal families. Although it would've been nice had they decided to focus on different animals. I feel there are already quite a few documentaries on elephant and polar bear life.

I think seeing it in the movie theater will be sooo different from watching it at home. Like with so many films the experience with the big screen is just amazing. The trailer alone for this one was overwhelming when I saw it at the theater AND if that wasn't reason enough, I just saw this article about EARTH online this morning -

The film comes to us from Disneynature, the first new film label to be introduced by Disney in 60 years. To celebrate the premiere, the films makers will plant a tree in honor of every moviegoer who sees the film in its opening week.

Disney will oversee the planting of the trees in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, which is considered the most endangered rainforest in the world. Today, only seven percent of the Atlantic Forest remains.

Awesome way to make a real impact if you ask me!

Ohh a co-worker just sent a link to this contest. Seems pretty easy to enter - just have to email the site with one reason why you are excited to see the film...um I can think of like 10!

here is a description of the prizes: To get you and your family excited about this breathtaking documentary, Disneynature is giving away a variety of Earth-branded products including a canvas tote, a biodegradable tumbler, and a tree seedling to one lucky reader! This is a prize valued at $60.

Plus the post has a bunch of images from the film - can you imagine being that close to those animals??
