So, how much does everyone spend a week/month on food alone?

I actually miss my college meal plans.

I had a huge epitome (well, it's not that hard) and finally figured out that if I stopped eating out everyday I would save so much money. It's bad when most of my income goes to food, not even to rent. I spend around $500-$700 a month on food .. I'm going to try to cut that down to $150, by cutting out all eating out to only maybe once a week and actually going grocery shopping. I'll become healthier too.

Time to pay off debt, stop going further into debt, and go on vacation to France this summer! I'm still in grad school, so yeah.

170$ a month. 100$ on groceries and 70$ for eating out one day per week. My college meal plan is ridiculous (pay 1550$ and only get 550$ to use at the dining hall and the food sucks and is still overpriced). I purchase food from the grocery store in bulk, cut to portions, ziplock bag, freeze it and defrost the portion I want to eat the night beforehand so I can cook when its dinner time.

One of the reasons why I moved off campus my senior year was because the meal plan was $2,000 per semester, which would be $666 per month abouts.

I eat at Taco Bell a lot when I do go out to eat - so I spend about $2 per meal when I go out and probably $30-40 on groceries a week.

I also stopped eating meat a few years ago...which I'm glad for because meat is SO expensive. But so are a lot of soy products. The trick is to buy things like tofu for 89 cents at the Asian market. I can use a block of tofu for about 4 meals, cooking for my boyfriend and I. So that ends up being like $3.00 per meal for 4 meals. Really not bad. But I know a lot of people hate tofu. tongue.gif

Look out for cupons and grocery stores where you can use your own bags - the food tends to be cheaper. Friends make fun of me for being so weird about cupon clipping and looking out for "buy one get one" deals at the store...but they're the ones paying $600 a month on food.

Also buy fresh veggies instead of canned...buy store-brand things instead of name-brand.

($9.99 Hooter wings + $0.77 tax) X 7 times/week = $75.32/week = $326.39/mo = $3,916.64/yr.

I'm ashamed to admit this:

breakfast: 5.00 x 5 = 25.00

lunch: 10.00 x 5 = 50.00

dinner: 70.00 x 2 = 140.00

215.00/week x 4 = 860.00 +/- 200.00 for random spending.

Is it me or you did "TAKE OUT" on hooter wings? LOL, their wings are subpar at best....

Including my daily lunch, weekend drinks, etc., I'd say I spend close to $6-700 a month.

Depends on the occasion.

If its just groceries, maybe $150 a week. But when I go out, it can be from $20 a meal up to $200 a meal.

Some of you guys spend a fortune eating food. Do you guys eat out everyday? I did the math and for me, it should be less than $200 a month.

I spend too much on food.. maybe $10-15 a day when I'm eating out. Pretty much no one packs a lunch at my office, so I eat out pretty often.

Can't be helped, anyways..

^ Same here. I tend to spend $10-$15 for lunch + coffee on weekdays. No one bags lunch plus its a good opportunity to catch up with colleagues during lunch as the rest of the day is spent doing work and meetings. Some days, another $10-15 for dinner depending on how late I work because I would have no time to make food at home. During the weekends, I generally cook at home and maybe 1-2x a month I go out for dinners. Weekly groceries are probably $1-$150 for me, my wife, and the baby. So yeah on a bad month, it'll hit close to 1k. But I'm feeding 3 mouths so not so bad I suppose.

i spend about $70-100 on food. grab good bargains, and get what you can eat and how much.
also eat healthy of course. don't splurge on snacks that don't fill you up. the smarter you shop
for food the less you have to pay.

I spend $100 on grocery every month, since my mother likes to buy me food every time she sees something I would like to eat for a cheap price huh.gif

Most of my food expenditure comes from dinner during the week but mostly on weekends. Most weekends the whole day's meal and snacks are all bought out.

I forget about saving and am more concerned about having fun. smile.gif Food is fun.
