How Much Do You Spend On Food?

I actually miss my college meal plans.
I had a huge epitome (well, it's not that hard) and finally figured out that if I stopped eating out everyday I would save so much money. It's bad when most of my income goes to food, not even to rent. I spend around $500-$700 a month on food .. I'm going to try to cut that down to $150, by cutting out all eating out to only maybe once a week and actually going grocery shopping. I'll become healthier too.
Time to pay off debt, stop going further into debt, and go on vacation to France this summer! I'm still in grad school, so yeah.

I eat at Taco Bell a lot when I do go out to eat - so I spend about $2 per meal when I go out and probably $30-40 on groceries a week.
I also stopped eating meat a few years ago...which I'm glad for because meat is SO expensive. But so are a lot of soy products. The trick is to buy things like tofu for 89 cents at the Asian market. I can use a block of tofu for about 4 meals, cooking for my boyfriend and I. So that ends up being like $3.00 per meal for 4 meals. Really not bad. But I know a lot of people hate tofu.
Look out for cupons and grocery stores where you can use your own bags - the food tends to be cheaper. Friends make fun of me for being so weird about cupon clipping and looking out for "buy one get one" deals at the store...but they're the ones paying $600 a month on food.
Also buy fresh veggies instead of canned...buy store-brand things instead of name-brand.

breakfast: 5.00 x 5 = 25.00
lunch: 10.00 x 5 = 50.00
dinner: 70.00 x 2 = 140.00
215.00/week x 4 = 860.00 +/- 200.00 for random spending.

also eat healthy of course. don't splurge on snacks that don't fill you up. the smarter you shop
for food the less you have to pay.

Most of my food expenditure comes from dinner during the week but mostly on weekends. Most weekends the whole day's meal and snacks are all bought out.
I forget about saving and am more concerned about having fun.
