SHDSFJDKFJSDF sad.gif Please help!
I get EVERYTHING about chemistry thus far that I have learned but I don't get line structures sad.gif
I am slowly understanding it buttt there has to be an easier explanation to this madness?

This is line structures:

I understand that each up and down line is CH3 or CH2 and double bonds but other than that, I can't seem to derive anything! sad.gif

What do you want to derive?

All I can say is the structure is C19H21N2, has benzene rings and a nitrogen in the ring, which, have implication in nucleophilic addition and what not.

How do you know which is C and which is N ? And how many of them are there?

Each point is a carbon. Anything else is given as the letter of the molecule, thus, N is shown on the line structure. Umm, other than that, the amount of hydrogen is just from looking at the bonds, if there's 4 bonds to a carbon (i.e 2 double bonds and 2 single bonds) then there isn't an hydrogen, so octet rule applies.
