My life is pretty boring and routine. I go to work and go to gym and come home and surf the net, read and listen to music. That's bout it.

I'm into physical activity and the gym is getting boring. So I was thinking of enrolling in dance lessons for hip hop. I live in a pretty medium sized city so there's not a lot of places that offer dance classes. I found one though but it says for ages 15 to adult.

Now I'm 25 years old. Is it way too late to take dance lessons? I'm in shape and I don't look like I'm actually 25 if you know what I mean. I'm an asian guy. But I don't want to embarrass myself either in a class full of teenagers. I'm not sure what ages 15 to adult mean. Cause adults are people over 18, right? I'm not sure how the age distribution works there.

But I won't know how it is until I go. Should I give this a try?

I don't think its too late to try anything!! I've been wanting to take hip hop classes too but unfortunately all they offer around here are ballet and jazz classes! but in my opinion age doesn't really matter when you're looking to broaden your interests and skills, its just a learning process...lol...and like we always hear, learning is a lifelong process ;D

so i say go ahead and do it!! more power to you for trying it. but if you're worried about being in a room full of kiddies then you should check out some other places! don't let that hold you back. let us know how its goes!!

Go for it! I'm around your age, and decided to learn Salsa last year. It was a blast, plus, it'll probably come in use some day.

I am a dancer. 25 is NOOOTTTT too late. There are choreographers who STARTED dancing at that age. I mean, you probably don't want to get serious about it, but from an extreme view point, its very possible as long as you are passionate. There are award winning dancers who are 40 years and older.

Its never too late.

My parents were about 40 when they started taking ballroom dancing lessons. So um, I do not think 25 is late at all to start! Go for it and enjoy!

No way! I used to see a lot of older people at this one hip hop workshop typle place I used to go to. A lot of people would learn breakdancing from the people there and they're all about your age or older! I think it's a great opportunity for you to get out there and do something and maybe make some new friends along the way. Just be open minded!

I'm a girl and im 24 and I take hip hop classes. Its quite fun, and sometimes I feel awkward when I think I'm old,but then once you start talking to some of the people taking the classes, you realize they are older then you or about your age. If you feel awkward, bring a friend.

Btw: Contemporary is hella hard >_>

I can certainly relate to why you wouldn't want to be in class with a bunch of 15-year-olds, so why not ask that dance school what the demographics are directly? It would save you a lot of time that way.

ummz.. i think you should go for it.. or you could always go and ask and see majority of the groups are about what age.. or maybe they could put you in a schedule with more older people in them.. if you dont feel soo comfortable with younger people there.. but if it's something you really wanna do .. you shouldn't think too much about what other people have in mind!! [= i always wanted to take some dancing lessons!! but i can't afford it.. haha and my parents relys on me!! /= .. so if you have the chance in experiencing something new.. you really should, because some people just aren't as lucky as you get!! /= have FUN!! you should try salsa and maybe swing. I think you'd have a lot of fun at it, usually it's more 20-30 yr olds that go to these classes, I wouldn't worry about a ton of teenagers in class. have fun and just try it out!

Not at all, I know tons of Hip Hop classes that are being taught for 30+. A lot of people take them just to keep in shape and find something fun to do rather than having to run on the treadmill all the time. I've some martial arts classes like this too.

Any type of dance that involves couple, like ball room, there's always beginners at all kinds of ages.

Usually the age thing is more built for competitions and something you seriously want to look into as maybe a career, since when you're younger you are more flexible and can gain tons of experience.

Have you ever seen normal Taiwanese or Korean people walking around on streets? Most of them have huge noses, small chinky eyes and flat noses and look nothing like those celebrities you see in dramas. And sorry, but most Korean celebrities you see on TV underwent a lot of plastic surgeries in order to look like what you see on TV. I think this should be well-known by all K-Pop-fans.

I kept asking myself with the same question this month... My little sister joined a dance lesson and she's like 14 or something... I was a dancer when I was in high school, hip hop of course... Now I'm a 3rd yr college student this May... I kept thinking if I should go for it to keep my skills from fading out... Yea, I'm more like 70% going for it but my schedule are booked up for a year and one sem... I'll be doing 4 thesis... I guess, but the time I'm free to dance, I'll be 21... Bummer!!

I think you should try salsa instead. You'll have fun alright. Plus salsa is a big plus...well for me. smile.gif

And there is more body touching..who knows you just might meet a girl you like.

Give it try mang. It's a school, you'll learn some moves, and when you go to a club, you'll want to show'em off. Well, not just a club...perhaps dance circles and b-day parties and whatever.

Plus, the new generations are learning new styles of dance...well...i guess variations/improvements on other styles. Tutting/finger tutting is quite popular. So I think it would be fun for you to learn, especially when you feel the beat and tone of hip hop and you want to express it. yummy

I'd definitely recommend community college dance classes if they're available. I've taken a bunch, and the atmosphere is usually fun and relaxing since there's a wide variety of people who take it just for fun. Life's short, enjoy it!

Oh yes, and the instructors are usually in their 30's and 40's too smile.gif

i'd also recommend college/university community classes. that way all the people are around 20+.
i used to be a teacher for hiphop/street dance classes as well. i had groups divieded into kids, teenage,
20+ and even 30+ folks. i also had one woman, who was 42 and never had dance classes before.
she had a lot of fun and i was reallu surprised, because she did really well. so it's never too late smile.gif

Do it!

Check to see if there are any classes available at your local university or college. At the very least, the people there will be in their 20s. If not, see if you can go and be a spectator for a class to see what it's like.

I believe that it's never too late to dance. You hear about people discovering dance when they're in their 30s and 40s. I'm planning on taking a hip-hop class with my best friend the coming school year, and I just recently discovered ballroom. I'm hooked and I can't wait to sample everything else. It's never too late to learn something new and broaden your horizons, let alone something as awesome as dance.

Go for it!

you can do now, or wait until 71 years old and start a group yourself:
