Everywhere, I read that you should always rinse your rice 2-3 times before you cook it because it's "dirty" and you want your rice to rise "fluffy" instead of "sticky". (BTW, we eat that Japanese Kokuho Rose sushi rice...)

Have I been eating my rice wrong for all of these years!? ph34r.gif We never rinse our rice because supposedly all of the nutrients go straight out of it...

Does it really taste better "fluffy" instead of "sticky"? crazy.gif

girl.... you need to wash that rice. these grains usually go through a long process before being cooked in your rice cooker, and in order to get any "dirt" out, you need to be on the safe side and just give it a quick rinse. ok? smile.gif

that's a misconception for many people. i read a published article that clearly states that nutrients are not wasted when you wash your rice.

the one thing that may be true is that rice can be dirty when not washed. here's a pic of a rice plant in thailand:

its not like there's rats all over, but the rice isn't very clean in that type of environment. japanese rice is a lot cleaner due to their storage standards, but you should still clean it until the water is not white anymore.

most white rice are bleached also. rinsing takes out the impurities that may deposit during processing. sorry but looking at the milky water while rinsing my rice makes me want to wash it every time i cook rice. well also any white rice is basically striped of its nutrients anyway since its been bleached and all that stuff so rinsing it a couple of times isnt going to hurt you.

lol my mum is completely crazy about this. so i do it as well (not complaining or anything =]) we rinse about 4 times. i dont think it takes the nutrients away... the the water just goes milky because of starch.

we also eat a lot of different types of brands... and some of them are dirtier than others. like, u can find those wierd little insects that seem to like rice when rinsing.

so, its a good idea to rinse. =3

There's no "right" way to eat rice per se, maybe a traditional way? A lot of people just prefer to have it not so sticky...because you're washing away the starch and starch thickens the water you cook the rice with.

i dont rinse my rice. i dont see a point. when you pour the "dirty" water out, you can never pour all of it out, theres always some leftover so i dont even think the rice is clean even after the rinse.

Yeah I rinse too, I think it tastes kinda weird when I don't s:
And tbh if I have to choose between having a few more nutrients (supposedly) or having rice that's actually clean, I'd prefer clean rice xD

Basically, clean rice = safer rice to eat.

I heard that washing your face with the water drained when rinsing rice is good for the skin especially your face.
