Since my Verizon contract expired, I'm planning on switching to T-Mobile, but I can't decide which phone to get. Any inputs? I'm contemplating between either the G1 or the BB 8900, so far these are some of my deciding factors.

HTC G1 - $179.99

Pros:
- 3G network and WiFi capabilities
- Touch screen
- Comes in pearl white
- Full QWERTY keyboard
- Large screen
- Nice applications
- Good web browser

Cons:
- Hype
- Large and bulky
- Touch screen (it's a love/hate relationship for me)
- Unstable Android OS
- Requires a web access plan ($24.99-$34.99)

RIM Blackberry 8900 (Curve 2/Javelin) - $199.99

Pros:
- Classic
- Small and sleek
- WiFi capabilities
- Full QWERTY keyboard
- Stable Blackberry OS
- Optional web access plan
- High density screen resolution

Cons:
- Utilizes Edge with no 3G capabilities
- No touch screen
- Will likely become common (like the Curve and Pearl)
- Smaller-sized screen

If you aren't getting the data plan I wouldn't really recommend either of these phones.

I have both phones and the size and weight alone, I would pick the Blackberry 8900 because its smaller and lighter. The G1 has more applications/games because of the android market yet the blackberry app world opened a couple days ago and will probably start having games/apps smile.gif. Also, you should get the data plan if you are using either one...

AND if you go with the G1, make sure you get the white one...the white one has a better build quality and looks nicer!
Currently Using: Apple iPhone 4 White 32GB, Apple MacBook Pro 17" Quad-core i7 8GB 128GB SSD and Apple iPad 2 White 32GB

Well just to let you know costco and amazon are selling the G1 @ $97, I think I've also heard wal-mart selling it at around that price.

For the G1, I'd wait at least until their next big update is released.
Or when the G2 comes out, which rumors hint that it should be coming out soon.

definitely G1...looks better and has more applications.

can't go wrong with Android.

this said based on the fact that I have seen and played with both.

personally I think Blackberry phones are ugly and overpriced.

the keys on Blackberrys are so inconvenient. G1 is nicely spaced out.

G1 is a better and cooler device imo.

also, i wouldnt get the G2. might not be much difference in performance and you'd be losing the slide out qwerty since it would be all touch.

I don't think the G1 is hyped out, i think the BB Curve is. Almost everyone I know (in Orange County) has a BB/Curve or Iphone.

Cool, fellow OCer ^^ smile.gif

I'd pick the G1 because it's cheaper and in my opinion, it's better because it has a touch screen. I'm not so sure about having to pay for the internet though. It has lots of applications also and the BlackBerry is pretty good.
My cousin has the BlackBerry and she loves it. It's a little pricey though. The little ball is kind of hard for me to get used to, since its pretty small. I'm used to my old SideKick's scrolly ball. The BlackBerry has a few games, around 5?
I'm not sure about the G1 since noone in my family has it. I want it except for the bottom which makes it look uncomfortable to type with.

Thanks for the opinion guys!

I think I'll be getting the BB 8900, I've found that between the two comparisons I find the aesthetics of the 8900 to be more appealing, and aesthetics is one of my top peeves. ^^" That along with the fact that I don't really need those run-of-the-mill applications. I typically just use my phone for calls, texting, calendar events, etc. Mainly just the basics.

The Costco I work at actually only recently got the 8900 in, and it's going for $99.99, but as of yesterday the price dropped down to $49.99 for a new two year contract or eligible upgrade (for the first two lines) due to Mother's Day and because they'll be on coupon starting May 11.
