I noticed that some people really like to make a point that they're 100%....100% Chinese, 100% Korean, 100% Filipino, 100% Vietnamese, 100% Whatever.

Then there are people who are very proud to be of mixed ancestry and will list every single one, such as being Korean...Filipino...Japanese...Chinese...Spanish...Italian...White...Black...Lat
ino...whatever.

My question to you, how much of this actually matters in your life? It's been said in some cultures that being 100% is better.

Hines Ward talks about this in his video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T84rXduuzaU

While in other cultures, people of mixed ancestry are viewed as more beautiful i.e. the Philippines.

Has being 100% or mixed benefited you in anyway during your life?

Have you ever seen normal Taiwanese or Korean people walking around on streets? Most of them have huge noses, small chinky eyes and flat noses and look nothing like those celebrities you see in dramas. And sorry, but most Korean celebrities you see on TV underwent a lot of plastic surgeries in order to look like what you see on TV. I think this should be well-known by all K-Pop-fans.

Uh, I'm half filpina and half korean. I consider myself to be of both races, and race does not make up 100% of your character and who you are as a person [socially] -- only your family history and blood really counts for it.

Being a hybrid..... well, I get to eat both delicious filipino food and korean food XD And people think it's unique and cool :)

Seriously, no one is 100% anything, all cultures has a little mixed in them. So when people say they are 100% tisk! tisk! history can tell, they only can tell a few grandparents away....

I'm part Chinese and part Taiwanese , their pretty much from the same place so I have no problem .
I have a thing with standing out , being different & All ,
so I guess the whole mixed thing wouldn't work for me . Though , I love being a combination .
'Coz , Tai & China both have amazing people . & I have amazing friends there whom I can travel back and forth to .
>__> ;; * Well not really , since I hate going back . But just saying .

biggrin.gif ;; & I didn't turn out looking too physically horrible .

I think 100% or mixed is just fine.

But if you are mixed, you have the higher chance to know more culture and languages. Right? cool.gif

If their pretty much from the same place, how are you part Chinese and part Taiwanese...and not just full?

I don't really think it matters, as long as your proud of it it's fine. I'm mixed, 1/2 Italian, 1/2 Jewish and I love both of them, I do sometimes lean more towards one than the other depending when it is.

I do think some people push it with the being mixed thing, it gets a little ridiculous.

You hear some people talking about how they're like 5% this and 3% that, honestly when a percent gets the small, it's time to let it go!
I know a girl who was like 5% African American so she considered herself bi-racial, even though she was the whitest looking girl ever and the rest of her background was of european descent. I think that if your grandparents aren't a somewhat large percent of it, don't even bother.

well I'm 75% vietnamese & 25% black cause my dad is mixed with black & vietnamese while my mom is fully vietnamese...
its pretty cool cause i get to "experience" things & people always say "oh my gosh u're mixed? no wonder u're so pretty.." or something like that..idk..i guess its fine in life to be either way..100% or mixed..
life is suppose to be mixed not 100% of something..otherwise whats fun in life right?
LOL

I'm 100% viet, and I couldn't care less if I was mixed or full
either way, there's nothing wrong with being a mix or a full, as long as you're proud of your own ethic

I am Caucasian/Korean mix, first of all. I do speak Korean fluently, along with Spanish, and English is my first language. I was sorta confused when i was growing up as a child b/c at the time, i didn't know where i belonged. But now, i am very confident about both of my heritage and very proud of it. Although people always get confused about my ethnicity and i have to explain what i am, they are more shocked that i am able to speak Korean. Not mention how people now envy mixed people. I still don't get that but who am i to say anything lol. Right now, i feel as though i have best of both worlds. I am learning about my forefathers from both sides of my family. I consider myself from both of British/American and Korean descendant.

But does it really matter when we are all human beings to began with. I am sure if we look back in history, we are descendants from many ethnicity put together. In other words, we are all mixed in a way.

Im Korean and Russian <= a tad... but if i look at my ancestor book which is like 5 inches thick! all in chnse! according to that book im.... Korean. Mongolian. Chinese. and my mom's side is Korean. and i think her distance family is Russian. =T.

My dad's side just say they are Korean. =T and my mom says she is Korean too but sometimes Russian cuz my grandfather looks like a white and asian mix and my aunts look white asian mix as well as my mom.

I dont really think it matters but some people like to be exact! and later in life =T when marriage comes around some parents or distance relatives are strict about this whole race thing....

so by my ancestor book and my mom's side too im RUSSIAN KOREAN MONGOLIAN CHINESE..... to long of a list.. so i just shorten it as Korean. or something i just say Korean and Russian... and if people wanna no my ancestor background i tell them the history.

Noone is 100%..... they should have something in there... I know not many people have an ancestor history book =T but if you do read it... its interesting!

im proud to be KOREAN or Korean russian...

when people say im racist to white people or black or any other race i tell them im white mix lol and that shuts them up so in some case it is important =T

when i talk to adults they ask me wat i am and i say korean and tad of russian and they sai O know wonder you look different! you have white figure .... (and i look at them like wat? ehh? okay? w.e.? thank you???) or some people go o no wonder why you have light color hair like light brown and you have hazel eyes that turn blue and grey. =T

but ya personally i dont really think it matters =T

so what constitutes being bi-racial?

i like saying im half chinese and half caucasian.
one reason is cause people always say i look mexican. no offense, but i dont want to look mexican. my friends say this is racist, im not being racist. why would you want to look like a race you arent? i dont.
another reason is, i cant just say im chinese. i dont look chinese at all.
and i cant say im caucasian. cause i dont really look caucasian either.

so i say both.

weird?

Well I'm mixed with Some Viet, chinese, and cambodian. And most people don't think cambodian is asian... So if i were full viet or something i think i would be treated more as a asian person.

lol ^ I don't know why but I find that funny.

I'm not 100% Vietnamese, but I'll just say I'm Vietnamese and if they want details I'll tell them I'm 25% American. It's not a big deal to me though.
