for me, i consider anything more than 1/2 drive as a long commute. on the train, it can be longer. but i tend not to have to travel far for anything so i get amazed how ppl can travel so far especially on a daily basis or to see someone for a relatively short moment.
any experiences to share, guys?

After 7 months of looking, I finally found a job in the city 2 hours from my home. So i lived at my bro's house, which about 20 mins drive from work.
Every weekend I went home, to see my bf (now hubby) who had been babysitting my apartment.
I was still paying the rent at the time because I wasn't planning to keep the job, since it's only an entry-level. I worked there just for the experience while looking for a better job near home. I found one after working there for 8 months.
Almost half of my paycheck was used up to pay for the gas I used to commute back home T_T
Home to current job, about 20-30 mins drive one way.

At University, I'm 2.5 hours away from home, so I dorm instead of commute. It's really a waste of 5 hours when something else productive could've been done.

Consider me one of the fortunate ones for living close to work.
I timed myself once and it takes me roughly 12-15 minutes literally from my front doorstep to the drive thru window.

Fortunately I go against traffic, but still makes for an hour long travel.
It used to suck because I don't have radio and listening to the same music get reptitive & boring and made me sleepy, which is ridiculously dangerous.
I'm still trekking along 1.3 years later, but I've gotten used to things and it isn't so bad.
I found 2 radio stations that work: a mexican station, and WMBI Moody radio. It's a Christian station that plays praise songs, but mainly focuses on talk radio and sermons. It's a decent station, although I absolutely loathe the politcal talk. I'm explaining it as fate. It's odd because no other frequencies work, but those two are crystal clear. Maybe I was led to have more faith based exposure... that or I'm going to Mexico soon.
For those who commute long distances, do you have those days where you completely blank out when your driving and when you get home, you turn off the engine and ask yourself, 'How the hell did I get home?!' It's frightening how autonomous we really are. We're slaves to the familiar

Never mind long distance commutes, I've had some late Friday and Saturday nights where I'm asking myself the same thing.

It's awesome

I do that all the time - when I'm driving at 5 in the morning, I look up and go - wait, how did I get to work? it's sad how we zone out
