I recently got a notice from City of Los Angeles for an amount of 4300 + dollars... *ab63 assessment*
I've worked once as a freelance illustrator where I sold 2 drawings in 2007.
I only make 2600 dollars a year from working as a workstudy at my university!
Apparently they've been sending me mails before but since I live on college property, it went to my last year's address. I've been trying to update my addresses, but I don't know where to update that address for City of Los Angeles.
Anyways, I have no idea why they are charging me 4363 dollars. I think it might be due to the freelance drawing I've sold. I think I also called it a business because I wasn't sure what else to call it and when I looked it up online, that's what some other freelancing artists did as well. I have not sold a drawing since then, and I'm panicking because I do not have that kind of money!
Is anybody familiar with taxes help me? I'm panicking!

Does it say that it's a ... err what's that word.. wow it slipped my mind but it's not the exact amount but it's their assessment (?). I got that too because I filed a 1099 (i think that's which one it was) but just take it to your accountant and they should handle it. My dad took mine. I freaked out too when I saw mine.
Some say i'm a genius, others say i'm crazy
but they all say i'm a little on the weird side

It may have to do with that. A quick google search led me to this site: http://www.scribd.com/doc/1215226/Californ...ard-ab63-120600
Maybe it's required that you get a local business license before selling your art?
