Hello Everyone! I'm 19, international college student in U.S now. I'm really struggling about my future like... "What should i study.. what major i want to study...?" I'm taking business course now but actually I don't like business that much... The only one thing that makes me feel so excited, so interested at is entertainment's world. I love music, dramas, and TV shows. I'm really really love Korean entertainment industry.

I really want to become someone who could make TV shows like: We got Married, Family Outing, MBC Gold Fish, The Star Show,..... If so, what kind of education i should take? We call those people PD right (Program Director??) ?? What exactly PD do? What major is it in U.S? Could you guys recommend me some school for it? I would love to join in Family Outing staff one day just to look how they do, organize to film the show.... but i'm not korean.... sad.gif I know no one in Korea... It's kind of impossible to join in.... sad.gif... But there's any chance i could join and see (like an internship), i could do anything to take that chance...

I also would like to learn about how to creating a star (looking for normal person, train them, making them become star) but from what i know, there's no school teaching those kind of things...... And this is just my second interest. When i become strong, i would love to open an entertainment company. But right now, the thing i really want to learn about is becoming someone who could make the TV shows. That's my biggest dream. Could you guys recommend please?? What major is it i should study in U.S or other countries if they are better at it than in U.S? ... And i have to say there is a big different between TV shows in Korea and TV shows in U.S.....
I'm really confusing now... Please give me your opinions. I would love to listen anyone's opinions... cuz i really don't know what i should do now. This question has given me headache for years now sad.gif.. Please help me!! Thanks so much in advance

I'm no expert, but I think a basic major that you could find at most colleges that might work for you is Communications. It's my minor right now, and you can use it as a base for a lot of different careers.

Look into your school's communications (or whatever they call it) department. Depending on where you're going you might have access to studios/radio/television equipment right on campus. My school is pretty small and we've got a pretty nice studio set up that I would have never even known about if one of my professors didn't take our class there. Ask different professors/counselors about opportunities for classes or internships available on campus, it would be a great way to get you started towards what you want to do.

I'd also suggest looking for internships at local tv stations/radio stations in your area to start with, too. They might not be your ideal place to work, but everyone has to start somewhere. One thing that's for sure is that wherever you are, the entertainment business is cut-throat, so you're gonna need your fair share of experience/to work your way up.

Hope this helped a little bit. :]

Like said above, look into communications for the TV/radio/film.

As for the business side, look into schools with management programs that specializes in entertainment and media management.
I plan to major in business management for entertainment and media.

I would elaborate more, but I'm about to leave.. so send me a PM if you have questions.

There is no defined major, but from my experience, most PD's come from a business background. In the end, it's all about connections and knowing the right people. It's a networking job, any business involves networking but the entertainment world stresses networking more so than any other job. That's why many people try to get into a "top" university, to gain connections and get an internship easily. Schools with prestige and students with wealthy backgrounds always help, ie. USC, Ivy leagues, etc. Experience is also key, if you don't even know what goes on behind the scenes, then how would you begin to start one yourself? You must get an internship and work for awhile until you pick up the trade. It's not easy and hundreds of "entertainment businesses" fail every year. Start from the bottom, work your way up.

Definitely need a business background as well as an understanding of TV and film. It's not that easy to succeed in the entertainment world though, just to let you know. I used to have dreams like that to want to work with celebrities and what not, but that lost my interest. I would think about a school like New York University. I don't know. Or maybe study in Korea and learn Korean too if that's the specifics you're aiming for.

Like everyone said and I have one more thing to add. Most of my friends that are in that major are also MINORING in a business major. It's suppose to go hand in hand later on in your career, that's what alot of people have told me. Good luck with everything! <3
