Just curious.

Would someone's reputation affect how you view, judge, approach, lose/gain interest in he or she??

(It doesn't even have to be reputation, it can just be a small little comment about a person behind their back here or there)

Discuss!

Yes. If I was attracted to someone, and everyone was telling me that they're a major ho, along with all sorts of crazy, heinous things they did (like one time when they made a puppy fight a rooster), I'd be a bit apprehensive. I'd still try to get to know them personally though, to see whether the rumors were true.

Reputation means nothing to me, if I like someone I do, if I don't I don't.

Want to tell me she isn't cool or something, so what I care I ain't exactly the prime example of that either.
Wise words: To know someone else you must first know yourself.

I'd get to know them first though.
Reputations are just rumors

let's face it, we are most likely attracted to someone who is quite popular.
Simply because, if he/she is popular, there must be something good about her. Be it friendly, funny, hot, whatever. (talking about positively popular here)
You can't just be popular without a reason.

So of course it does affect how we judge them.

I definitely wouldn't go for someone known as a player.
And I wouldn't befriend someone who's known for being a hoe.

i understand where you're coming from, but what IF the story you heard about the person was exaggerated or what if it was a one time mistake from the person? you'll still judge them from that?

just throwing scenarios out there.

well, reputations do kinda make me biased towards them, but reputations are just rumours.
They might not be what people say they are, so I don't really judge people based on their reputations.
Or I do try to anyway. lol

Besides, everyone talks.

reputations ; well, it really depends. if i was really hideous and i went to an interview applying as a stripper, wouldnt people just laugh at me? reputation is something that causes commotion but these days, people just cant get through their thick brains that the real beauty is nowhere but inside them.

as far as relationships go ... well ... no one would want to love a player tha doesnt have the same amount of feelings you do towards him/her.

The more rep they have about them, the more curious i want to get to know them. I would will always give them the benefit of doubt until they prove to me otherwise. Most rumors are just that...RUMORS.

I know that there are plenty of rumors about me, some true but most of them are made up by people who are jealous and envious, some even hate me for whatever reasons.

Either way, i just don't pay attention any more, because the more you do, the worse it will gets. I am use to it by now and i just laugh about it.

I've learned you really can't judge a book by its cover, and "reputation" is just another word for a book cover.

Reputations can be biased and most likely, they might be rumours. If someone told me the guy I'm befriending with is a player, I wouldn't be totally avoiding him but I'll just keep that in mind and see if he is one or not. If he's not, I'll always defend him whenever rumours like that comes up again.

I could care less about what other people think.

My boyfriend has a reputation of a guy who is a "player" (not really a player... just a guy who will date a girl for a week and then stop) and never settles down... well, guess what? He settled down.

I have to keep a good reputation because I don't want people to talk sht about my family, saying that I grew up a bad nut beacuse of how they brought me up & stuff like that. So I try to be as nice and respectful as possible.
But then again, I think my parents brought me up with a lot of manners & respect so I don't really try so hard to be that way.
Personally though, I don't really care about reputations. Usually, it's just rumors or talk. It can kiss my butt.. No homo. Haha.

No smoke without fire, right? ^^;;

But in all honesty, I'm a firm believer in 'innocent until proven guilty' -- people used to spread rumours about me because
I was so quiet. They'd say I couldn't speak english o_O; and whatnot.
Some people just like to create drama, so I'd give that person a chance regardless of their reputation - if they haven't done
anything directly to me, then I don't mind and I'd get to know them given the chance.

Repuation is important to me, but once it's tainted. I feel my repuration is damage, and it's hard to gain a good reputation or have that trust to bring it back >_< ....

But some people don't realize that they have a bad reputation when they judge others.

Such as someone is complaning about someone, probably don't realize, that the fact they complain means they have a reputation for 'holding a grudge' .. or 'unforgiving' ... 'complains too much' etc... think they better...

Don't judge others, judge urself!

depends. people can change but their reputation remains the same.
i'd be a bit more cautious, i'd be more curious. if people told me shes a flirt then i wouldn't be all happy if she flirts with me because she flirts with everyone.

but if people say shes a hoe, i'd find out for myself. either they have to prove it to me or i'll find out myself.

but if you mean reputation as in their not popular or whatever, i couldn't care less. popularity means nothing. i think that if someone is confident enough in their standing they won't care because it's not like dating a non popular person will make you less popular. if it does make you less popular, then you weren't truly popular in the first place.
