I get allergies in the spring, but this year it's a bit worse. One of the symptoms I that come along with the allergies is dry skin.
When I wake up in the morning my skin is very dry. I try to rub the dead skin off in the shower but I guess I can never thoroughly exfoliate. Afterwards I apply some lotion, but by next morning it looks exactly the same.

- I also take medicine in the mornings for the sneezing, watery eyes, ect.

Any advice on what I should do?

I also have really scaly dry skin. =_=

(I am assuming you're not talking about your face...)

I exfoliate in the shower with a shower puff, you know, one made of netting? Also helps to use a moisturising body wash for very dry skin.

As soon as you step out of the shower, dab your skin dry with towel (don't rub) and then apply a VERY VERY rich body lotion like L'Occitane's Ultra Rich Cream with 25% Shea butter, or a Body shop body butter for very dry skin.

If it's really bad I'ld slather on lotion more than once a day. I shower in the morning, moisturise and then in the evening before I go to bed I top up in really dry areas.

Baby oil after shower works for me. Make sure your skin is still a little damp before applying.

Moisturise Moisturise Moisturise !
After your shower slather on body lotion that's meant for dry skin. I use Nivea lotion for dry skin - the one in the blue container during the winter when my skin gets dry. it's cheap, smells nice and works wonders
