I really want to learn more about the trade of biomedical engineering, like the kinds of things an engineer or student of BME would do. I'll probably research more of it on my own, but I'd like to have a hands on opportunity to learn more about the field and the kinds of things I'd be expected to do as and engineer/researcher.

I know most of the applications deadlines for internships (ie. NIH, Upenn, etc.) have passed and I don't want to do a Summer College course. I'd prefer to do something that bases enrollment on almost only credentials rather than take courses that I'd have to pay for. I was thinking that I could study/research with a relative who is doing also doing research at a university, but I don't know if this is possible. Does anyone know how I would go about getting a research opportunity at a college in NJ or NY or anywhere else? I figured I would probably have to email/contact the BME department of the college, but should I go about doing that in a certain way? I don't have any previous research experience, but even if I can't help do actual research, if I could observe and assist researchers in any way, that would be awesome. I just want to use my summer constructively (summer before senior year) and have something to show for college. Any help or advice would be really appreciated (:
