I guess he wanted steroids in bed...

Source: Ramirez’s substance a sexual enhancer

LOS ANGELES – A source close to Manny Ramirez(notes) said Thursday that the illegal substance for which the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger tested positive was not “an agent customarily used for performance enhancing.”

At least not on the baseball diamond. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance is supposed to boost sex drive. It is not Viagra, but a substance that treats the cause rather providing a temporary boost in sexual performance, the source said.

Ramirez tested positive for the substance during spring training, then was administered a second test more recently, and it also was positive. Major League Baseball notified Ramirez of the second positive test after Wednesday night’s Dodgers victory over the Washington Nationals. Ramirez admitted to having taken the substance and declined to appeal. His 50-game suspension begins today.

“The substance is not a steroid and it is not human-growth hormone,” the source said.

Ramirez, the source said, acquired the substance through a prescription from a doctor in Miami for his medical condition. The source intimated that Ramirez might bring legal action against the physician.

Ramirez released the following statement Thursday morning: “Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I’ve taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons.

The Dodgers, who have won a Major League record 13 consecutive home games to start the season, will be without Ramirez until July 3. Outfielder Xavier Paul was promoted from triple-A to take Ramirez’s place on the roster. The suspension will cost Ramirez close to $8 million in lost wages.

here's an idea players getting suspended:

let's see...you play a game as your job. you have a set of rules that states ABCXYZ are not allowed in your system. When someone prescribes you something (no matter what their qualifications are), would you not get it tested by MLB before you put it in your body?

MLB recommends it.

was it HCG as being rumored? if so...not looking good.

QUOTE
However, two sources told ESPN's T.J. Quinn and Mark Fainaru-Wada that the drug used by Ramirez is HCG -- human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG is a women's fertility drug typically used by steroid users to restart their body's natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle. It is similar to Clomid, the drug Bonds, Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO.

Kinda sad Manny is added to the list now, he was one of the few Red Sox players I really like.

Now the only hope is Ken Griffey Jr. If Griffey is in the steroids talk, it will ruin baseball for me.....

Well A-Rod is back and made an immediate impact on the Yankees lineup. Matsui is looking good in the past few weeks. April is over and Sabathia is looking really good, but the Yankees bullpen still looks really bad.

Oh, and Carlos Silva is the worst Mariner ever.

I think he was nervous and the weather was pretty bad.

Hopefully he comes around and does good like he did in ST.

There's nothing wrong with Park. He's a flyball pitcher in a park that elevates home runs from both righties and lefties by over 20%.

He pitched above his skill last year in Los Angeles, but was still resurrected there. He should have stayed in LA, the only place where he's been good, and where he has support.

But hey, he got what he wanted.

Oh, and like I said in the other thread: Shin Soo Choo=Greatest Korean Hitter to date.

I haven't paid attention to the Jays much since Carlos Delgado left, but I'm impressed with their terrific record so far in the season smile.gif

The Jays are doing pretty good, but I don't think they will win the pennant though.

Solid rotation, they are good contenders this year.

And finally...

Chan-wow has been moved to the bullpen. JA Happ is now the 5th starter.

One of my favorite moments of Park was when he kicked Tim Belcher. Good times.....

Decided to catch Wang pitch yesterday. He got the stuff, but the location is really off. Can't blame it all on him though, Swisher messed up and one of the Boston's single was just unlucky for Wang.

The Yankees organization really messed up dealing with Wang. They should have left him in AAA to rebuild his stamina and make his 1st start against the Nationals. Don't make him pitch against teams like the Red Sox.

yeeah. the M's are back to .500! and going into interleague play, i hope they can continue their good play. and with the Angels sucking right now, they can move into 2nd and get close to the Rangers. Ichiro getting on base for 40 straight games and counting is awesome.

I was cheering for Ichiro during his hitting streak. And on the night when I finally have time to watch the Mariners game, his streak ended sad.gif.

Uh yea, that is a tight division. No one is really pulling away, the A's are getting hot too. Their bats are getting hot and their young pitchers looks promising.

As always LOLmets. Castillo is a scrub.
