i work in 7-eleven(yeah go ahead and laugh) but I always worked in retail. The past two years I've been working in 7-eleven and notice people are becoming so rude. instead of simply asking for help they demand it or else. "Hello, can you help?" they rather say "hey,I want service" WTF! Or their talking on their cellphone and I'm suppose to figure out what they want by using my crystal ball.I had one guy curse me out cause I found his cellphone that he had left behind. When I asked him "What did the phone look like" he started to curse me out.How rude was that to curse me out for finding something he left behind. I worked for lager retail chains and receive the same rude behavior from people. I also see it online in forums and chat rooms. people bulling each other for stupid things. Even online dating is a joke. You have different ways for someone to break up with you or call it off instead of telling it to your face.Whats the whole point of having all this technology if people are using it to just be rude. Whats the whole point of having cell phone and internet if its another way to ignore or attack someone. I feel the more advance technology gets the less human we become. I wonder if anyone notice this or am i the only one?

The purpose of technology, in this case, is to improve efficiency with communication, not to improve on etiquette.

In my case, I have dealt with the cons of technology and their inability to express emotion, tone and etiquette, so to prevent being misunderstood, I try my best to use the right words and practice good etiquette.

It'd be better if I studied linguistics but too lazy. biggrin.gif

I think a lot of those people will be rude online--or off. Either some people were never taught how to behave--or it was drilled into their heads so much that they got sick of it--and just went the opposite way.

When a being is removed from its natural habitat, its behaviour will become pathological.. technology just takes us on the next step of that "evolution".

By further removing us from the things we contact, it dehumanizes the contact between people.

On the other hand.. it's really convenient.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Ever since the inception of the taser, I've personally found mall cops to be particularly more rude to me than before.

Rofl.

I was thinking about something like this the other day but more that .. it seems that since the internet, humor has become extremely crude between people... mellow.gif Oh, also that people think it's funny to be Tom Cruise to eachother. I mean, there were always people that were like that but it seems like since the internet, it's become much more common. Lol.

The impersonal methods you are refering to in communication would have just yielded talking behind your back in the older days so really it isn't much different. Anyway, there are a lot of decent customers but it is the bad ones that you remember because they make up the bad work stories that you get to tell your friends. I don't think the frequency of rude people changes, I just think they are given more devices to spread it.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

But then again I hate rude people with a passion. I've actually held a door open for someone and had them not even look at me so I called him back out and said he dropped something and before I shut the door I told him to open it for himself next time or say at least say thanks. The guy walked back in with an embarrassed face.

Girl at the counter just laughed and the man behind him just gave me a thumbs up hah.

*makes ditto sign*

Personally what bothers me more is how technology is making me into an idiot. My internet dementia is getting worse every year, and the day will come when I can't remember my address or home phone number anymore because my pda/cell/laptop remembers for me.

And they all break. At the same time.

One time I got off the train during rush hour and this woman was talking loudly on the cell phone......the person in front of her held the door for her, and I was behind her.....but she just kept talking and walking she didn't even hold the door for me and just let it slam in my face. I gave her a black face as I walk pass her after that but she was too into her conversation she didn't even bother to look. Other people just kept shrugging as they walk passed her.

There are also times when I was being nice and all, but I don't get any Thank You's from people, which sometimes make me feel like an idiot. It's like I'm getting the message, "Hello stupid, you didn't have to do that. I never told you to do that, but you volunteered, so I don't have to say thank you." dry.gif Sometimes little things like these makes me mad.

I agree. Its people vs.people, sad but true.

And what's with the "You've been Rick Rolled" on Youtube and various sites? I like the song but its annoying to be clicking on everything with the song popping up.

That's true.

But it's also technology that allows people to be rude in different and more efficient ways.

Yes, new developments in technology have allowed people to hide behind computers and be more impatient than ever before. But it doesn't make them act that way. People are fully capable of choosing how they respond to certain situations.

agreed.

Another thing, as technology advances for the purpose of helping us become more efficient it's also dumbing us down and debasing important forms of human interaction. It fascinates me how someone can turn from normal to crazy when the piece of technology they were using isn't performing the way it should lol.

If technology keeps advancing the same rate or faster, I give this world 10 more years before we all become socially retarded and very impatient brutes.

People are rude in nature. Humans, are veil little creatures but in the past I was a meanie in forums. don't know why but in the past people think or thought i was a rude person online. I do have a rude side to me everyone else does but technology may just help us sharpen are b@#ch claws towards each other. I also though of this from the movie "He's Just Not That Into You." The past week i've been getting a cluster of emails from guys wanting to hang out. I'm just blowing them off with emails but nicely. I feel so guilty I ghave a hard time saying no and a hard time getting my way. dry.gif
