I'm trying to eat less of processed foods but one thing I'm having a problem with is getting my grains. I eat rice everyday, but I usually also pack a lunch to school, with bread. I guess bread is processed but is whole grain bread healthy enough, or is it still bad for you? ohmy.gif

Yes, bread is a processed food. However, store bought whole grain bread is definitely healthier than store bought white bread. You can skip the whole processed bread by making your own though.

A simple google can help you understand what processed food is.

REFINED GRAINS
Choosing refined grains such as white bread, rolls, sugary low-fiber cereal, white rice, or white pasta over whole grains can boost your heart attack risk by up to 30 percent. You've got to be a savvy shopper. Don't be fooled by deceptive label claims such as "made with wheat flour" or "seven grain." Or by white-flour breads topped with a sprinkling of oats, or colored brown with molasses. Often, they're just the same old refined stuff that raises risk for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart attacks, insulin resistance, diabetes, and belly fat.

At least seven major studies show that women and men who eat more whole grains (including dark bread, whole-grain breakfast cereals, popcorn, cooked oatmeal, brown rice, bran, and other grains like bulgur or kasha) have 20 to 30 percent less heart disease. In contrast, those who opt for refined grains have more heart attacks, insulin resistance, and high blood pressure.

Read the ingredient list on packaged grain products. If the product is one of those that are best for you, the first ingredients should be whole wheat or another whole grain, such as oats. The fiber content should be at least 3 grams per serving.

basically, if you can't find it naturally in nature, it's processed. Can you find Oreos in nature? Naw. (I wish..)

yeah, like a previous poster mentioned, if you want to eat bread, either make your own or buy bread that has has 100%whole wheat flour and such.

the only bread i eat is Ezekiel Bread. Its sprouted bread and doesn't contain weight very healthy ^^. The taste is not that great though if your picky about taste buds.

bread is no doubt healthy for you, I prefer wheat over wholegrain. Bread has enough fiber and it should kick start your day.

I'd assume processed food meaning food that has preservatives in it for it to last longer. whether or not the bread you're eating is processed, it depends on the company...i prefer buying at my local backeries where they bake it fresh everyday.

white bread and white rice are basically the same thing; they are broken down into glucose aka simple sugar. if you want healthier alternatives try brown rice and whole wheat bread, both have fibers.
