you can go eat the chicken rice,
laksa, chilli crab or black pepper crab,
many many others things, all are quite nice(:
yup and satay is one of it, they have chicken, mutton or pork and
they will provide a kind of rice which is nice too,
and you can go to newton to eat all the seafood but not very cheap,
and you can go a place call "old market" in chinese is call "lao pa sa"
there are all the satay which is nice,
and maybe when at late night you can go a place call chomp chomp,
over there , theres a drink call " dou hua" is somehow like soybean,
but that like tofu, you can give it a try over there, and they have many flavour over there,
and of course also the stingray that very nice, and you also can go east coast park there to have
seafood, over there the beef noodle and satay sauce with bee hoon is very famous,
oh and also the wan ton noodle(;and there is also bak kut teh, that nice too, also the teo chew porridge
and for dessert there one kind of cake call kaya cake, its very nice

Among the Taiwan artistes, our pandan cake is extremely popular with them. Just because it's green and delicious, haha xD
I don't know what to recommend, really.
We have too many good food to name.
Just eat whatever you see in our country xD

EDITED

Some of my favourites are:
Char Siew Rice (roasted pork and rice)
Hainanese Chicken Rice (steamed chicken, usually boneless, and rice (the rice is one of the best part haha))
Bak Chor Mee (egg noodles with minced pork and other ingredients, served dry or with soup)
Ban Mian (hand-made flat noodles served with vegetables, meat balls, sliced mushrooms and an egg, served in soup)
Roti Prata (it's an Indian version of the pancake. you can have it plain, with egg, cheese, onions, or even bananas! Top it off with curry or sugar. If you try the one with the banana, order only one per person because it's extremely filling.)
Laksa (it's noodles with coconut milk-based soup. it's usually spicy, though. I usually eat the famous Katong Laksa (in the Katong area) but I'm a road idiot (I usually eat there with my siblings) so I don't have the exact address. you can ask around though.)
Rojak (it's like an Indian salad, but the taste and ingredients really differ from the usual vegetable salads)
Bak Kut Teh (pork ribs herbal soup. go to Balestier Road for a really good one. I haven't been there for a really long time, so ask around! Singaporeans are usually friendly)

In general, just go to Lau Pa Sat (lah-oo pah saht), Newton Food Centre, and/or Chomp Chomp and eat whatever you see. HAHA. If you're travelling by taxi, just tell the taxi driver these names of the place will do. If they don't know where is Chomp Chomp, it's at Serangoon Garden. Do note that Chomp Chomp is usually not open in the day. It's a good place for dinner and supper.

As for desserts, you can try the Ice Kachang to combat the hot weather. It's like a colourful mini ice mountain with jelly, red beans, corn and attap seeds beneath.

Or just look here. Haha http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_food

1. traditional breakfast: soft boiled eggs, kaya toast (kaya's a kind of spread with coconut milk in it, it's really sweet) and coffee or tea (teh tarik: check out the wikipedia entry for more info)
2. chilli crabs with deep fried buns (i usually eat it with rice but most foreigners like it with the bread)
3. hainanese chicken rice
4. nasi briyani (it's an indian rice dish)
5. lassi (it's a traditional indian yogurt drink)
6. roti prata (it's a malay style pancake;especially cheese prata it's awesome)

everyone pretty much said everything that has to be tried in singapore... but maybe you can try durian? it's erm, a fruit, and it's not like only singapore has it but i LOVE it. but it might not be to some people's liking... it's like a love/hate kinda thing with durian for people. you either LOVE it or HATE it. so yeah. LOL.

i think crabs and chicken rice are a must. LOL.

Xialongbao and chicken rice are my personal recommendations haha.

Barrack, House in Demspey is worth checking out too, not only is the food good, so is the location, décor and the outside scenery !
