Hello^^ I apologize to the mod's if this has already been posted >_<

So, I am planning to take photography 11 & 12 next year on my last year of high school. I'm really into photography and i wanted to take these courses. We'll be using programs like phtotoshop.

I was wondering what camera or brand would be great for this type of class? and does megapixel matter? What would be the best one?

Since you're still in high school, I think just a simple digital camera would be nice. Save your money for later on when you're in college and such.

I recommend Canon ( I own like 3-4 cameras plus I'm getting a DSLR) , a professional photographer came to my school 3-4 years ago and I asked him what brand is the best and he said Canon smile.gif.

I wouldnt spend a lot just for a high school class. You dont need to go out and buy a dslr LOL. Yeah megapixel matters though.. dont need to go too high i think 7-8 is good for your class.

1. Any brand is fine -- a beginner DSLR sounds like the thing you need. Canon Rebel XS, Nikon D40, Olympus E-420, Sony A200, etc.
2. Megapixel does not matter unless you're making giant prints -- 5mp and up is fine.
3. It depends on your budget.

In my old school, our teacher had dslrs and macs for us to use and borrow. Perhaps it's the same for your case? If not, don't waste your money on a 2 year class in high school unless you really know that you want to go into photography.

Have fun smile.gif

Also, I asked my art teacher about the Sony Cybershot 10.0 MP, would this be a good choice for a camera?

I took photography throughout high school
you won't need a DSLR or anything you'll be good with a camera that's 4mp and up
you probably won't end up printing a size bigger than 11x17 so a 4mp will be fine well it was for me lol
as for a camera go Canon or Nikon way better than Sony imo I own a Sony and Canon and i prefer Canon's image quality
and like Goombi said maybe your school might have cameras for the program already and you don't need to buy your own unless you really want one....

Nikon D50 is what I used for my digital photo class. Very easy to use, too.

What erure said.

Don't bother with a point and shoot unless its a panasonic DMC-LX3 (has manual settings). When doing photography you want to be able to tell the camera what you plan/want to do and for this a DSLR is highly recommended unless u got a P&S with good manual functions.

Wow, you're lucky to have a photography course in your school. sad.gif

I don't think it really matters which kinda camera you should get right now. Obviously you're not gonna be required one the first day you enter the class, your teacher should tell you when and what kinda camera you will need.
