Placing Napkins/tissues In The Dish After You've Finished Eating Does this imply horrible food?

One day at a restaurant with some friends, I had finished eating something very nice and then placed my napkin/tissue into the bowl. I do this often because I don't wanna just have to leave dirty tissues and napkins around and also to help the staff clean up a bit and show that I'm capable of cleaning up after myself. My parents work in a restaurant and I see them put tissues into the bowl after customers have left and I've seen them do it themselves.

Now when I put my tissue into the bowl after having finished said meal, my friend noticed and said, "Did you know when you put your tissue into the bowl it means the food was horrible?". I dunno where she thought that came from, and I'm not sure why it even means it's bad cause she didn't actually explain it. So here I am pondering as to why this MAY indicate that you just had horrible food.

The way I see it, I finished the food and practically left not a trace of it left in the bowl. This pretty much means I like the food, right? I'm also helping them with cleaning as well!

So my question is does putting your napkin or tissue into the bowl really imply to the people at the restaurant that their cooking is horrible? And also does anyone else do this themselves because it seems like a natural habit...well for me anyway. tongue.gif

the only thing I've heard is...
not implying on napkins...
in Japan when you don't make noise that means you don't like the food....
DBSK had this interview...
and they said about this...

anyways about the topic...
never heard of that...
maybe your friend just made that up or something...
idk...
because I do that and no one tells me such thing...
so yea...

I do the same thing, just not all the time. And I've never heard that it means you don't like the food. Just a guess, but maybe it's a cultural thing. You should consider what your friends background is/are, the ones that said this. But if they are the same background as you... then I have no clue.

I've never heard of that, maybe it's cultural. But I don't know anyone who does it either.

wow this is totally new. I never heard of it. But I usually don't put it in the bowl or on the plate, it's kind of weird.
