Hi, I'm looking for some "good reads" out there. It can be a book, a short story, a magazine, etc. But I'm specifically looking for those things that you see people post on their blogs because of the meaning behind them. An example would be the "Important Lessons About How We Treat People" read, the "Best Son in the World" story, or the one about "The Art of Being Single." Words of wisdom type of things. Sorry if I'm not being detailed enough. But I honestly don't know how else to describe what I'm talking about. o_o

Edit: I just found a perfect example of what I'm looking for: http://www.amazingposts.com. But books, magazines, and other inspiring reads are still welcomed!

Are you looking for inspirational/philosophical books like the Chicken Soup for the Soul books or are you looking for a real good fiction to read?

It sounds to me like you're looking for Chicken Soup series type of books? I recently read Maya Angelou's Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now. It has a collection of essays she wrote on all sorts of subjects (sprituality, love I think, etc.). Plus, it's really short.

OK, I WILL sound like the dork that I am, but....

"Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James Loewner.

^^ I'm in education, and this was recommended by one of my teachers.

^ totally agree with Kite Runner
it is the best school assigned reading book i have ever read

actually, it comes second to "A thousand Splendid Suns"
also by the same author

I guess, to me ATSS was ..more emotional to me and relatable because they focused on women a lot

Hmm, yeah, books similar to those. But, I'm open for any real good fiction books.
Also, they don't necessarily have to be books. They can just be those little online reads with significant meanings/lessons that you find in blogs.

Btw, thanks for all the suggestions thus far. :]

Just go and find "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace at your local library or something. Chances are you'll either love it or hate it. It's fiction by the way.
The only thing that makes sense about life is death.

Well if it's supposed to be motivational-type books, I've got nothing
since I don't really read them. But fiction! You should read Firefly Lane
by Kristen Hannah. It's a total girl book and maybe more of a women's book
since it's about two bestfriends that grow up together. Go Ask Alice is good too.
You've probably heard of it - true story, diary of a drug addict.

All Quiet on the Western Front

Do not see the movie before reading the book...
Motivational in a sense that you see how the actions of the main character and relate it to choices in real life.
A story told through a different perspective.

As mentioned by others, The Kite Runner most definitely. The Good Earth has been a long time favorite of mine as well .. I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha (i know, i'm a little late lol) & I really liked the book. The film .. ehh not so much.
