Its been many years and im STILL wondering what its called (even did some researching but it was difficult since i dont know if its taiwanese or chinese) Some background info on the series. I watched this around 1999?? Setting was around the Han dynasty, the series was spoken in mandarin, had many episodes and i think there were 3-4 more seasons. The first two(?) seasons were played by the same girl but after that they changed the actress...but she still played the same role.
Here's the story of the series based on what i can remember.
Its basically about a young girl born in a powerful and wealthy family. Her dad is some kind of leader (or maybe he works under the emperor, not sure) and her whole family is skilled in fighting except her. Her dad refused to teach her how to fight so she would hide in the woods and watch her older sister practice and then she would try to imitate the moves on her own. Her older sister knows and purposely practices different moves to show her, she didnt teach her directly because she knew it would anger their father. (btw- he refused to teach her because of her mischievous personality) She was able to learn quickly because she was smart and talented.
Some stuff happens and one day she meets a mysterious guy who is VERY skilled in fighting. I think he was some kind of 'wanted thief' and he spotted her practicing (and i think they started practicing together). More stuff happens and he disappeared for a long time...but then he comes back with a completely different face (a different actor). She didn't recognize him at first but he kept kind of stalking her. He told her he was wounded by someone and a villager saved him in the river, his face was distorted so they found a doctor and fixed him up. During the time he was gone, the girl also met another guy. He's also another mysterious dude and plays the flute, his personality is more serious compared to the other guy and he has long bangs and cover part of his face. If im not wrong, she met him cause she heard him playing the flute at night and went out to look for him. She didnt act friendly towards him but they were attracted to each other in a way.
The series wasnt entirely romance based, more on the action side but i dont remember much about what was going on cause i probably didn't understand it when i was younger. There was a lot of stuff about her father(?) dealing with his missions and lots of evil villains etc. Towards the end of the first(?) season, she follows her father (and family) to fight some kind of war proving that she was skilled enough.
