I am 21 this yr.
Most of my friends are past the "idol" stage in life.
I am the only one still stuck in the 'idol' stage.

Although i don't buy their albums, scream whenever they appear , travel to other country to watch their concert.

But i watch videos of certain singer cos i like them n think they r handsome blush.gif
My friends keep telling me to 'grow up' and say adults like us shouldn't be having crushes on idols as we r not young anymore.

So now, i don't tell ppl i met that i like certain pop singer or grp.

The funny thing is that I just recently got into Idols and I'm nineteen. I haven't been in touch with the Asian pop culture and guys (and girls) have really evolved; style wise, physique, dancing skills, etc.

So yea.... I'll watch shows and listen to their songs but I'm not a die-hard fan like those Super Junior Elves (attacks anything that comes within a mile of the SuJu members).

My newest "obsession" is Bi (Rain). His smile is so adorable!

soompi, by itself, has a really big age range. there are kids of 9 or 10, to people in their 70's or more--and yes, they have 'idols'. It's common for the male stars (singers or actors, or those that do both) to have uncountable 'older' fans. Bae Yong Jun is one of those people. Ryu Shiwon is another--they both also have huge followings of ladies in their mid-fifties to infinite. They go to the concerts, appearances, fanmeetings--and do everything else a younger fan might do. I have an auntie friend that is in her 50's who not only heads our own board for a certain actor--but she's met him a bunch of times, and he knows her and has a lot of respect for her. I'd hate to be in the room when someone tells her she's too old to have 'idols', or that she should grow up. laugh.gif When my friends (in their 20's and 30's--I'm the oldest in the group, but younger than my auntie friend--) go to a certain groups concerts--in Korea, or Japan, where they also perform and record--they are surrounded by many older women. In some of the concerts on DVD, you can see them clearly. It's the same anywhere they go--and like I said, it's the same with most male performers. (not sure about the girls, but they always have older male fans too.)

this thread was started a few years ago, and you can see people are still posting in it--check it out.. ^^; You'll see your far far from alone.

there's a ton of people who do --a lot of them just in soompi, since this forum is as big as a small city. Most people I like are younger than me; that's why I'm mostly called noona (no one calls me ajuma)--but many are near my age, like Lee Seunghwan, or a few yrs younger, like Taiji. Some are older, too--I don't pick people based on age.

it doesn't hurt to admire somebody.. everyone has an idol (doesn't have to be a singer or celebrity.)

I think it all depends on WHO the idols are.
Like, if you're in your 20s and you're in love with those young groups from JE, where the members are like 16...you have issues.

I think it's not a terrible thing, not really anything to be proud of either though. I think it depends on how you act. If you're in your 20s I would hope you be a bit more mature than the teenage fangirls.

I'll be 22 this May and now you made me feel so old mellow.gif
I think each one of us have an idol that differs according to his/her age!
for example, when I was still a kid (7 or 8 years old) I was so loving Micky Mouse and admiring his intelligence and wishing to be like him!! (DO NOT laugh please!!!!)
when I grew a bit older, I had a crush on Hero Yui (from Gundam Wings) and I was like a crazy who drools over him and collects his pictures from the internet crazy.gif
and now I have Lee Jun Ki and Song Il Kook as my idols! I do find them handsome, and I spend lot of time searching for their info online lol tongue.gif but I think the reason why I like them and taking them as my idols is that I admire their outgoing personality, honesty, cuteness and incredible acting, which are all good qualities that I wish to have someday.
so I think there's nothing wrong to have an idle at any age wink.gif

Dudette, there's nothing wrong with liking celebrities at any age. Even when we're old, wrinkly prunes. sleep.gif The difference is that we know self-control, I guess. We know to shut the john tesh up when our favourite singers are singing a ballad. We really aren't there to compete who can scream louder. dry.gif

I think its fine to like idol groups at any age. Its not like you hit 20+ years of age and immediately stop thinking men are handsome. I do think there is a difference between the way older and younger fans appreciate idol groups though. I think older fans don't tend to let their admiration get in the way of their actual lives, such as being in actual relationships, etc. There's not so much of that fantasy/obsession as there seems to be for younger girls.

Depends who your 'Idol' is. If it's Elmo, you should reaaaaally be embarrassed. But if it's SUJU or some groups, it's okay.

Age is only a number. cool.gif Theres no age limit to liking idols. I just have a problem when people are too obsessed and act like those crazy suju fans....then i wanna punch them out tongue.gif

If you think there a good band or person, whatever then yeah that's fine I don't really mind but if you're acting like one of those teenage number fans kind of people I'd say, "Grow up" No offence

I say everyone has a right to like whoever they like and should never be embarrassed, the thing is once its gets inappropriate like if you have pedophile like feelings then things may have gotten to far, something like if your 50 and want to do it with taemin, but other than that there is no need.

Like other people have mentioned a lot of "Idols" nowadays have fanbases that have a wide range of ages, like for example dbsk/tohoshinki is known for having a huge fanbase in Japan that is consisted with people 10-20 or maybe even 30-40 years older than they are, and I personally see nothing wrong with that.

Everyone goes through the 'idol stage'. I think its because by the time you're 20, you're too busy to even keep up and as time goes by you'll have a job and a life and a family, all that stuff. Everyone has their time like how everybody has to leave the nest one day. 20 is old but I know older people who are still into the idol stuff. In my opinion, once you hit like 23 or 24, you should be out of that stage of idolizing them.
