Basically, my Brother just gave me a long lecture about how other races won't accept me and how I should stick to my own.
Now, I look up to my Brother and he says alot of wise things and is very knowledgeable, but I'm not so sure about this fact.

Haha, he even said not to listen to what other people say about this fact, but I don't know...

I'm a Pakistani, and I wish to work in the Gaming Industry in Japan.
He fully respects my decision and my Family don't really care what Career I choose as long as I'm happy.
He's saying how they won't accept me... And so won't other Races, so that's why it's good to stick to your own.
I don't mind my culture at all, and I love to make friends of all races. I tend to stick closer to Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc [Eastern Asia] because many of my friends from those races share the same opinions [about the World, music, etc] and interests as me.

The question is:
Personally, do you guys mind having close friends from other races ?

Tell the full truth, please, haha.
You'll make it. Just keep going.

I'm white and I have friends from all races, it doesn't matter to me.
But this situation is a little different. You want to go to a country where the majority of the population is one ethnicity, and even the minorities are still similar looking being from around the same area. You will stand out a lot, and people are going to look at differently, and won't always be that accepting because I doubt they're as used to diversity as people from other countries like the US/Australia/Most of Europe, and even in those countries there's still a lot of prejudice toward other races. At the same time though, not everybody cares about other races and I'm sure you'll make friends if you do go.

i agree with chakra'ca obviously if you go to a country like japan that although has tourists the general population is japanese so they don't stumble across people from other races as often as say if you lived in the states or britain as they're multi cultured countries and you see a black, indian, oriental person walking down the road you probably wouldn't look twice. but its nothing to be phased about at all and shouldn't worry you, it's not a judgement thing.

good luck with the gaming interests my friend is starting a game design degree this september and seems interesting, and i'm sure the japanese people will just find it cool that more people are becoming increasinly interested in the subject!

well. I'm caucasian (possible some Asian ancestors generations back), and one of my male friends is Chinese American--he was born here; his parents weren't. His older brother and father are like your brother--his brother was born here also. His dad is always telling him similar things...but I know his dad has had trouble with people in the past, and he isn't very trusting of anyone, especially if they're not Chinese. The mother is different--she is more accepting of people in general. My friend has his mother's personality. But--he did tell me before he met me, and had more exposure to other people--that he was also wary of people who weren't similar in backround. My friends have always been diverse, and I would be unhappy otherwise. They're my friends because we have things in common, no matter what their backround is. (edit: I also don't think of people as 'races' because we're one race-the difference is ethnicity or backround, etc)

There are jerks and haters everywhere--but you can find nice people too.

In Japan, there are places like Okinawa...it also has diverse people because there's a lot of Americans there, and people from other areas. Gamers and computer people come from everywhere. =D Hopefully you'll be happy wherever you go.

Hm, I don't mind having close friends of other races. All my close friends ARE other races. And their race doesn't matter in a friendship, although they can make stereotypical comments sleep.gif I wished I had a close Asian friend like me because we'd have more in common.

Don't let your brother discourage you. Def go to japan and pursue your dreams to work in the gaming industry because its more cosmopolitan than people think. Im from a black background (jamaican to be specific) one of my best friends is a viet chinese and my boyfriend is full anglo-english. We all get on because we share the same views and interests and are open minded. Thats it really. we shouldnt have to walk around scared that people arent going to accept us. As a black female im just cautious or wary (which might be a better word) of not putting myself in certain positions where i will be open to racial abuse or be excluded because of my race.

im 22 and lived in london all my life and NEVER suffered racial abuse or been directly affected by it. Maybe its cos im from London. But yea just wanted to share my story.

No, I don't mind having friends from a different race than I am. We are all human afteral, why shouldn't we all just hang out together? tongue.gif I hardly have any friends from my own race, not because I don't want to, I just can't find any. Lol.

Of course having other races as friends is a good thing, I enjoyed them. My friends are all kind of races. I used to be the only Asian who hung out with groups of Caucasians or Mexican people. Now I hang out with Asian people more, but I still keep in touch with my friends who aren't Asian, too. It's fun having different races as friends, you get to learn a lot from them. (:

Nope I do not mind! But then again, I'm really just looking as them as person, not their race because they're my friend. I don't really mind meeting new people though.

I think you should concentrate on your career and worry about the social aspect of it as it comes along, one day at a time. If you go to Japan, or any other country, obviously there will be people who aren't as accepting of other races, but of course you will make friends with people who have the same interests as you. Once you have made friends over there, it will be easier to shrug off the prejudice people you encounter and it won't matter so much. But, if you give up your dream because you are afraid of not being accepted, you might regret it for the rest of your life. You should just give it a try, and if it ends up not being what you wanted, you can move somewhere else and still have the work experience.

I don't mind having friends from different races.
I really judge people based on their personality, not their skin color.
I have Chinese, Caucasian, Japanese, Korean, and Jamaican friends.

I love making friends with people of all different culture!

Only idiotic people are ignorant enough to make friends by judgment of race, religion, sexuality etc.

My parents are Welsh but I have some Arabic in me. My family is super mixed and I love that. But I have some Korean family members - my aunt is Korean. She told me, Korea is changing now - I always wanted to move to Korea and now I get the chance to go to university there. But I got scared, 'cos all I hear about is how Koreans' are super racist to black and white people - especially black. I lived in London and moved to San Francisco -I haven't gotten skin color issues. But I have gotten Religious remarks. My only worry is that I don't hit in places because am Muslim. Since am sensetive it'll hard. Overall, I accept people from everywhere. I don't really care. I'm liberal <3
