I wanted views from older people so I'm posting this here.
might be long.
So how many of you here believe in fortune telling? not one of those telling where they tell you to call them over the phone to get your fortune. those are fake to me at least. I'm talking about getting your fortune told without the use of cards or the amazing magic glass ball.
In my life I never had any fortune told about me. Until today. It just happened suddenly. I was at a wedding and so when it was done we started to leave. We were by the car but I had to go use the restroom because it was going to be a 4 hours drive home. Right when I was about to leave the house, a guy "a brother in law" got my attention by saying where are you going? and I turned around and replied that I'm leaving. We both shook hands to say goodbye but he didn't let go of my hand just yet. He said to me that he has a feeling or thought that I'm going to become someone, meaning someone accomplished! Right there in an instant I had a thought because right now in my life I'm actually trying to get somewhere in life and try to accomplish my dreams.
Plus another thought occurred to me is that he might mean that I look like someone that became great. At first I just didn't think much of it. It didn't really hit me until his wife came next to us and heard us talking, she told me in my language which is Hmong that her husband who is Vietnamese (the one I'm talking to) can tell fortune. Right there where I was JUST about to ask him if he can tell fortunes, he told me he can tell fortunes. I was Shocked! The way he told me my fortune was in tone of voice where he is shocked or amazed that I'm going to be a SOMEBODY. He didn't tell me what or who I might become. But someone who maybe is recognized as I interpreted it.
weather its true or not I'll believe it to a certain point. Why? so I wont feel disappointed if it is false telling. but it all kinda makes sense and clicked to me now, ever since young I had a feeling something great might happen to me in the future and a wanting of something great like leadership. Plus these past few weeks I have a strong feeling of accomplishing great tasks and dreams becoming reality, as if I had already got them.
Your stories? believe in fortunes? and did it ever came true at least to a certain extent?

I don't believe in fortune telling. My girlfriend does, so does her family. It is a cultural thing (she is Chinese), and she often tries to read my future simply by looking at my hands, or the shapes and sizes of the features on my face. I really feel that there is no correlation between our bodies and our futures. For example, a common belief is that a big nose means you will earn big money in the future. Well, there are always exceptions.. look at Bill Gates, he has a net worth well over $50 billion, but his nose is not that large, in fact it is average size. This is just one example, but according to fortune telling Bill Gates should have the largest nose in the world correct?
I just believe that fortune telling is a way to remain hopeful and is simply something for us as humans to latch onto to have a drive or motivation in life. After all, there is no such thing as luck or bad luck, at least to me. There is no evidence that luck happens, or that bad luck happens. I believe that we make our own destinies, not some lines on our hands. Just my opinion and I think it is a common opinion.

^I agree.
My mum can't get enough of the stuff though, even though she claims she doesn't believe them. Every time we go to Korea, she discreetly sees many fortune tellers (discreetly because no one else in our family really appreciates her spending money on things like that) and enjoys what they tell her.

^ I agree about this and think about it the same way. That's why I'm not waiting for something great to happen but will do things to get me there. Therefore I think that I just have to have a positive outlook in life and make the best of it. This whole experience I will use it as a momentum to launch me up there.
