So I have an ISP (final summative) to do and the book I chose was A Thousand Splendid Suns which is by Khaled Hosseini ( author of the Kite Runner) o correspond with our book. Since there is no movie to my book I need to find on that relates to it.
Ar there any good movies is can be new or old that will relate to the following themes? love, human suffering, the struggle of women to be in control of their own lives, war and nationhood, domestic violence and political forces snatching away the rights of individuals.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, you can try Partition (2007) with Kristin Kreuk. I've watched it, and I think it should fit your description just nicely. Here's the summary from IMdB:
Determined to leave the ravages of war behind, 38 year old Gian Singh resigns from the British Indian Army to a quiet life. His world is soon thrown in turmoil, when he suddenly finds himself responsible for the life of a 17 year old girl, traumatized by the events that separated her from her family. Slowly, resisting all the taboos, Gian finds himself falling in love with the vulnerable Naseem and she shyly responds. In a moving and epic story, woven into a rich and exotic tapestry, they battle the forces that haunt their innocent love, fighting the odds to survive in a world surrounded by hate.

I vote for Pan's Labyrinth (El laberinto del fauno). Trailer: http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2728329497/
This is the story about a young girl... and the fantasy world she created, to survive the harsh reality... This movie teaches us how children survive the real world, which they are not prepared for, and how adults forgotten this ability, disregard it as nothing, missing its "power".
Lets see..
love - check
human suffering - they tortured some guy
the struggle of women to be in control of their own lives - check
war and nationhood - well.. slightly
domestic violence - check
political forces snatching away the rights of individuals - check
