Just as the topic says, i've been waiting for my refund check for over 5 weeks at my UNI, never got it and finally decided to contact the IRS. Apparently my refund check has been cashed in. A copy of the endorsed check has been sent to me and that handwriting is DEFINITELY not mine. At the top right of the check is 8 numbers. I am led to believe it's the DL# of the person who endorsed my check.
So far,
this person can be charged of check fraud, forgery, and mail theft etc.
Should i file a police report?
What else should i do to in order to receive my check?

oh definitely report it. Then you need to take it up with the university, becauee it's their fault for not properly check that the person cashing in the check was authorised to do so.

I agree. I believe they're supposed to check ID when cashing out a check. They won't even let you do it if your middle name is on your ID and isn't on the check.
Man, now i'm worried. Hope I get my check soon.

yes you should file a report and do what the ayahuasca said aboout contacting the university. i guess you could try calling the IRS back about your situation and ask them on how to solve the problem. hopefully youll be able to trace it back the person who stole your check but you may be out of luck. but then it could also fall under the responsibility of the uni for not doing a thorough check on whoever cashed it

Funnily enough though, unless the casher used a fake ID the cops may be able to pull the DL records

the people who cashed the check screwed up BIG TIME! that's a HUGE boo boo! first off, they do need to check ID in order to cash the check. they are held liable for cashing it. contact the IRS and the place it was cashed. if the 8 digits does turn out to be a real driver's license, then yes, the person is a dumb sh*t. however, seeing as how it was cashed in person, at least there's a trail you can follow and someone will be held accountable.
i swear, some people in the world are just so messed up!

You have to report it and follow the trail. This is definitely theft.
